    Abstract: An electronic display includes a display panel that operates in a single display mode to provide a single display, or a dual display mode to provide two displays separated by an inactive region. The electronic display includes the display panel and a panel driver. The display panel includes a left pixel region, a right pixel region, and a middle pixel region between the left and right pixel regions. In the single display mode of the electronic display, the panel driver provides first gate signals generated from first input data to the left, right, and middle pixel regions. In a dual display mode, the panel driver provides second gate signals generated from second input data to the left and right pixel regions. The first input data has a first resolution that is larger than a second resolution of the second input data.

    Abstract: Example devices may include a display (such as an emissive display), and a controller, where the controller is configured to determine an image content parameter for a displayed image shown on the display, and adjust a duty ratio of the display based on the image content parameter. The duty ratio may be dynamically adjusted based on, for example, an image content parameter that may be related to the brightness of the image, or a portion thereof. The controller may be configured to determine an image content parameter for each of one or more portions of a displayed image, and adjust a duty ratio for corresponding parts of the display based on the image content parameter associated with the respective one or more portions of the displayed image.

    Abstract: In one embodiment, a computing system may determine a first region and a second region of an image based on gaze data of a user. The second region of the image may be displayed with lower image resolution. The system may access a first pixel value associated with the first region of the image and cause a first source driver circuit to generate a first pixel signal. The first pixel signal may be configured to control a luminance of a first number of pixels of the display. The system may access a second pixel value associated with the second region of the image and cause a second source driver circuit to generate a second pixel signal. The second pixel signal may be configured to control a second number of pixels, which is larger than the first number and may include a longer pulse duration than the first pixel signal.

    Abstract: A liquid crystal panel may include a layer with a plurality of rounded rectangular structures such as through vias of an active matrix layer. A loss of contrast may result from the illuminating light undergoing a Fresnel refraction by the rounded rectangular structures. In particular, rounded walls of the structures may rotate a direction of polarization of a linearly polarized illuminating light, causing light leakage in the black state of the panel. Reduction of the rounded portions of the vias may improve the overall contrast of the LC panel, as well as orienting the polarization of the impinging illuminating light to be parallel or perpendicular to the structures.

    Abstract: A display device dynamically determines pixel settle times to reduce a display latency. The display device includes a backlight unit (BLU) for providing light for displaying an image, a plurality of pixels for modulating the light provided by the BLU, and a controller circuit for controlling the BLU and the plurality of pixels. The controller circuit determines a settle time from display data for a current display frame and display data for a previous display frame, and turns on the BLU based on the determined settle time. The determined settle time corresponding to an expected amount of time for the plurality of pixel to transition from a first state corresponding to the display data for the previous display frame to a second state corresponding to the display data for the current display frame.

    Abstract: Embodiments relate to a display device with reduced scanning time by using a reference line separate from a data line to improve frame rate of the display device. A first pixel in a first row samples a reference voltage during a first period and samples a data voltage during a second period. A second pixel in a second row adjacent to the first row samples the reference voltage during a third period and samples the data voltage during a fourth period, where the third period overlaps with at least a portion of the second period. The reference voltage is provided by the reference line that is connected to a reference buffer, and the data voltage is provided by the data line connected to a source driver circuit.
