    Abstract: Various aspects of the subject technology relate to systems, methods, and machine-readable media for interaction controls in artificial reality. Various aspects may include determining at least one element corresponding to a user device for accessing a shared artificial reality environment. Aspects may also include determining at least one artificial reality setting associated with the shared artificial reality environment. Aspects may include receiving an indication of a permission event associated with a permitted user or a temporal parameter. Aspects may include determining whether to enable or disable the at least one element or at least one artificial reality setting based on the permission event. The aspect may also include sending content to the user device based on the permission event.

    Abstract: A switchable polarizer includes a transparent layer and switchable material layer. The switchable material layer includes strips of a switchable material that are arranged to polarize incident light propagating through the transparent layer when the switchable material is heated to a threshold switching temperature. The incident light propagating through the transparent layer is unpolarized by the strips of the switchable material when the switchable material is below the threshold switching temperature.

    Abstract: A near-eye display assembly presented herein includes an electronic display, an optical assembly, and scanning assembly. The electronic display has a first resolution. The optical assembly controls a field of view at an eye box and directs a plurality of light rays emitting from the electronic display toward the eye box. The scanning assembly shifts a direction of at least one of the light rays in accordance with emission instructions such that a virtual display is presented to the eye box, the virtual display having a second resolution greater than the first resolution. The display assembly can be implemented as a component of a head-mounted display of an artificial reality system.

    Abstract: A device includes a display including multiple pixels, each pixel having an optical emitter to provide at least one light beam from an image. The device also includes an optical element to relay light beams from the display to a viewer through an eyebox, the eyebox limiting an area that includes a pupil of the viewer and a varifocal assembly to direct, through the eyebox, light beams having a first and second mutually orthogonal polarization states, according to a desired mode of operation of the device, and associated with a first and second field of view of the image in a focused mode of operation of the device, and an immersive mode of operation of the device, respectively. A memory storing instructions and a processor to execute the instructions to cause the device to perform a method for adjusting between the immersive mode and the focused mode are also provided.
