Abstract: Disclosed is a computer system comprising an audio processing module, an echo cancellation module and a control module. The audio processing module is configured to process an audio signal and output the processed audio signal to e.g. a speaker (or similar) of the system. The echo cancellation module is configured to cancel echo from an audio signal received via e.g. a microphone (or similar) of the system. The control module is configured to detect a condition indicative of nonlinear amplitude processing by the audio processing module and control said echo cancellation by the echo cancellation module based on the detected condition.

Abstract: A method of reducing noise in an acoustic system, the method comprising at a first user terminal: receiving an audio signal from at least one further user terminal over a network; executing a communication client on a processing unit, the client configured so as when executed to: supply the audio signal to an audio signal processing module of the first user terminal, wherein the processing module processes the audio signal, whereby a level of gain is applied to the audio signal, and outputs a processed audio signal to a speaker; estimate a noise level of the audio signal and the processed audio signal and estimate the gain applied by the processing module taking into account both the noise level estimates; selectively apply a system gain reduction step to at least one of the audio signal and an audio signal received via a microphone, based on at least the estimated gain.

Abstract: A receiver receives a first data stream and a second data stream from a transmitting device over a packet-based communication network, the first data stream being of a first media type (e.g. audio) and the second data stream being of a second media type (e.g. video). The first jitter buffer will buffer each of a plurality of portions of the first data stream as they are received via the receiver, and apply a de-jittering delay before outputting each portion of the first data stream (e.g. audio stream) to be played out through the receiving device. The jitter buffer controller receives information on the second data stream (e.g. video stream), and adapts the de-jittering delay of the first jitter buffer (e.g. audio jitter buffer) in dependence on the information on the second data stream (e.g. information on the video stream).
