Abstract: A breather valve and a portable communication device including a breather valve are provided. The breather valve includes a housing having a bottom portion having an opening and side portions, a rigid substrate located within the housing and a breathable membrane mounted to the rigid substrate. The breather valve further includes a gasket having a top surface and a bottom surface, and a preloaded compression element across the gasket and the rigid substrate. The gasket has an upper energy director located at the top surface and a lower energy director located at the bottom surface. The preloaded compression element provides at least a first compressive position providing a contact between the lower energy director and the bottom portion of the housing and a second compressive position in which air passes around the lower energy director and the upper energy director.

Abstract: An apparatus, method and communication system are provided for acoustically detecting the deployment of equipment. The equipment may comprise portable objects (104), such as a gun, taser or baton, used by law enforcement. The apparatus comprises plurality of acoustical ridges (108) integrated within a body worn accessory (102). A predetermined sound pattern (130, 140) is generated from the acoustical ridges in response to sliding the portable object across the plurality of acoustical ridges integrated within a body worn accessory. Information pertaining to the portable object, such as dynamic information pertaining to the removal and insertion of the portable object to and from the body worn accessory (102) is determined. A communication system (300) including a portable communication device (112) can store the information and/or transmit alert signals to a base station (302) for tracking deployment of the portable object.

Abstract: A device, system and method for transmitting a response command to a radio using a visualization of locations of radios and communication links therebetween is provided. A device generates a visualization of respective locations of radios and communication links therebetween, the visualization distinguishing between the radios that are inside a coverage area of a communication network and a first radio that is outside of the coverage area, the visualization indicating a second radio in communication with the first radio via a local communication link. The device detects an input indicating a response command associated with the first radio. The device determines a routing path from the computing device to a given radio of the radios that are inside the coverage area. The device transmits, to the given radio, via the routing path, the response command.

Abstract: A control switch (110) is provided to facilitate a primary user interface for a control top surface (106) of a non-orthogonal control top (102) of a portable communication device (100). The control switch (110) comprises a thumb button actuator (112), a rotary lever (220) having a lever arm (222) extending therefrom, a transfer arm (202) coupled between the thumb button actuator and the lever arm of the rotary lever, and an electrical rotary switch (204) with a switch shaft (224) providing a primary axis of orthogonal rotation. Actuation of the thumb button actuator (112) results in linear, non-orthogonal motion of the transfer arm (202) being translated into rotary motion of the switch shaft (224) about the primary axis of orthogonal rotation (205).
