摘要: The invention provides an apparatus and method for bulk delay insertion prior to echo cancellation, with echo suppression. The exemplary apparatus embodiment (100) bandpass filters (120) and down samples (130), by a down sampling factor, a reference signal and a combined signal that includes an echo of the reference signal. An adaptive echo delay filter (140) determines a plurality of filter coefficients, using the down sampled reference signal, and using an error signal formed as a difference between the down sampled combined signal and the adaptive echo delay filter output. When the filter coefficients have converged, an echo delay time period is determined as a product of the tap location of the maximum filter coefficient and the down sampling factor. When the echo delay time period is greater than the capacity of an associated echo canceller, an adaptive delay inserter (110) inserts the echo delay time period prior to echo cancellation. Following insertion of the delay, echo suppression (170) is implemented while the echo canceller retrains with the new, inserted delay.

摘要: An apparatus (200) checks voice quality when in a vocoder bypass mode. If the voice quality level is beyond an acceptable range, the apparatus (200) ends the vocoder bypass mode and returns to tandem vocoding. For example, a vocoder bypass controller (206) includes a speech quality detector (225) that determines the speech quality level of speech information based on at least one of detected volume level, echo level and noise level of the speech information. The vocoder bypass controller (206) with the speech quality detector (225) outputs a speech quality-based vocoder bypass control signal (236) to selectively activate or deactivate a vocoder bypass operation in response to the speech quality-based vocoder bypass control signal (236). In another embodiment, a network element for communicating speech packets includes an incoming decoder (512) and a speech quality detector (514) operative to determine the speech quality level of incoming speech packets. The speech quality detector (514) determines whether to activate speech quality enhancement operations in response to a determined speech quality level of incoming speech packets.

摘要: In a CDMA wireless communication system (200) a dispatch call can be established between two CDMA mobile stations (202, 226), or between other mobile stations and the CDMA mobile station, or between a CDMA mobile station and a computer (236) located outside of the wireless system. To reduce the delay normally association with call set up in a CDMA system, a dispatch processing network (128, 144) is provided in addition to a telephony switch (118). Dispatch calls and call set up requests are routed to the dispatch processing network from the radio access network (110) which includes base stations (204, 206). Once a dispatch call request is made, while the dispatch processing network begins setting up a traffic channel for the originating mobile communication device, the target is also paged, and upon responding, set up on a traffic channel. The concurrence of establishing radio links with the target and originating communication devices substantially reduces dispatch call set up time.

摘要: An apparatus and method is provided for adjusting a Quality of Service (QoS) for a communication device in a communication network. One step includes registering an application from a service provider with the communication device and the communication network. Another step includes receiving, by the communication device, a token from a token provider that permits a modified QoS level for the registered application. Another step includes sending the token by the communication device to the communication network. Another step includes negotiating the QoS level between the service provider and the communication device, dependent at least in part on the reception of the token. Another step includes providing, for the communication device, the modified QoS level permitted by the token for the registered application.

摘要: Upon receiving (101) a vocoded voice frame and detecting (102) that the received vocoded voice frame comprises an erased frame, one automatically replaces (103) the erased frame with a valid frame having at least one error condition. In a preferred approach this error condition is one that is known to cause a receiving target platform to invoke a corresponding erasure process with respect to the valid frame when received.

摘要: An apparatus and method for efficient transitions between operating states in a communication network, includes a preliminary step of having a mobile station in a Dormant or Idle state. A next step includes requiring a data transfer, either to or from the mobile station. A next step includes transitioning the mobile station from the Dormant or Idle to an Active state. A next step includes transferring a bearer path context for the data from a Paging Control Function (PCF) to an RF Bearer Function. This can include creating a tunnel using an Inter-PCF handoff procedure. The result is a direct connection between an RF Bearer Function and an IP Router, without the PCF being in the data path.

摘要: A method for managing a communication session between a first communication device and a second device in a communication network (100) is disclosed. The communication session is conveyed between a service-provider server and the first communication device via a first communication link. The method at the first communication device includes requesting (204) a third communication device to be associated with the communication session. The first communication device requests the third communication device, via a second communication link. The second communication link is substantially transparent to the service-provider server. The method also includes determining (206) whether the third communication device can be associated with the communication session. Further, the method includes requesting (208) the service-provider server to associate the communication session with the third communication device when the third communication session can be associated with the communication session, via a third communication link.
