摘要: A method and apparatus for the casting of a composite metal ingot comprising at least two separately formed layers of one or more alloys. An open ended annular mould has a feed end and an exit end and divider wall for dividing the feed end into at least two separate feed chambers, where each feed chamber is adjacent at least one other feed chamber. For each pair of adjacent feed chambers a first alloy stream is fed through one of the pair of feed chambers into the mould and a second alloy stream is fed through another of the feed chambers. A self-supporting surface is generated on the surface of the first alloy stream and the second alloy stream is contacted with the first stream such that the upper surface of the second alloy stream is maintained at a position such that it first contacts the self-supporting surface where the self-supporting surface temperature is between the liquidus and solidus temperatures of the first alloy or it first contacts the self-supporting surface where the self-supporting surface temperature is below the solidus temperatures of the first alloy but the interface between the two alloys is then reheated to between the liquidus and solidus temperatures, whereby the two alloy streams are joined as two layers. The joined alloy layers are then cooled to form a composite ingot. This composite ingot has a substantially continuous metallurgical bond between alloy layers with dispersed particles of one or more intermetallic compositions of the first alloy in a region of the second alloy adjacent the interface. The combination of an alloy of high strength bonded to a surface layer of higher ductility gives a sheet of improved bendability compared to the high strength alloy used alone.

摘要: An anchorage safety device for steelworkers. The safety device is configured to be slidably coupleable to a flanged structural beam to which a lanyard may be attached to secure a workman against a fall. The anchorage device includes an elongate cross-member having a plurality of apertures formed there-through to allow adjustment of the anchorage device to accommodate various beams, a lanyard attachment apparatus, affixed to the mid-point of the cross-member, for receiving a clip of a workman's lanyard; and opposed first and second clamps for coupling the device to the flange of a beam. The clamps include a ratchet pawl having first and second teeth for selectively engaging the cross-member apertures. The worker needs only one hand to release the ratchet pawl from the apertures by simultaneously applying pressure on an enlarged engagement surface of the ratchet pawl and a clamp housing surface that is opposed to the enlarged engagement surface. Since both forces must be simultaneously applied in opposite directions, inadvertent disengagement of the clamp from the cross-member is obviated.

摘要: An expansible, variable depth anchor is adapted for inserting into a hole formed with a structure. The anchor includes a load cable and a first chock attached to an end of the load cable. A second chock resides adjacent to the first chock, and is adapted for movement between an anchor-contracting position and an anchor-expanding position. In the anchor-contracting position, the anchor is readily inserted into and removed from the hole of the structure. In the anchor-expanding position, the anchor is locked inside the hole of the structure. A chock-release column comprised of a series of axially-aligned spools carried on said load cable, and defining respective break points allowing said anchor to flex relative to the structure bears against at least one of the first and second chocks and has an enlarged head adapted for locating outside of the hole. The enlarged head defines a striking surface adapted for receiving a sudden force. This force is transferred through the chock-release column to the first or second chocks, such that the second chock is movable from the anchor-expanding position to the anchor-contracting position to thereby dislodge the anchor from the hole of the structure.

摘要: An energy absorption device is disclosed for use both as an in-line and horizontal life line shock or energy absorbers for fall arrest systems. The energy absorption device generally includes an elongate housing sleeve constructed from two mating halves, said housing sleeve having disposed therein at least one biasing element, a plurality of reinforcing plates, a fastener for securing the mating halves of the housing sleeve together, and a honeycomb core. The honeycomb core is pre-crushed in an axial direction such that peak load forces caused by an initial fall are eliminated and the core is crushed at a substantially uniform level. Further, a pretension indicator may be provided for assisting a user in obtaining a predetermined tension on the device.

摘要: A pivot handle operable for use with conventional hole anchor devices is provided and generally includes an assembly of links and rockers attached together on opposite sides of the load cable by fasteners. Respective ends of the hole anchor's chock cables are fixed to the rockers. When assembled about the load cable of the hole anchor, the rockers cooperate to allow kink-controlling movement of the chock cables relative to the load cable. The handle rocks or pivots when one chock cable is in tension and the other cable is in compression, thereby discouraging cable kinking or excessive bending which may foul effective operation of the anchor. To facilitate retraction of the handle, finger curves formed with the rockers are also provided.
