    摘要: Aqueous vinyl ester/acrylate copolymer emulsions possessing enhanced wet pick strength in paper coating compositions comprise a vinyl ester/acrylate copolymer colloidally dispersed in an aqueous medium, the copolymer consisting essentially of (a) a vinyl ester of a C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkanoic acid, (b) 2 to 50 wt % of an alkyl acrylate, and (c) 0.1 to 10 wt % of an ethylenically unsaturated mono- or dicarboxylic acid or half ester thereof. The copolymer is prepared by an aqueous emulsion polymerization process comprising the use of a stabilizer system consisting essentially of an alkylphenoxy polyethoxy ethanol and an anionic surfactant and, in the preferred embodiment, the use of a seeding procedure.

    摘要: A stability augmentation system for a forward swept wing aircraft is disclosed that corrects a dynamic instability phenomenon which occurs when the whole vehicle (rigid body) motion couples with the wing structural motion. The sensors are positioned and their output signals combined such that wing structural motion is isolated. Specifically positioned wing control surfaces are operated to suppress such motion with minimal resulting rigid body pitch motion inducing inputs.

    摘要: Ground carts to support skid equipped aircraft and to maneuver these craft safely on the ground during taxiing for take off, recovery, servicing, and transport to maintenance or storage. The ground carts provide the capability to minimize risks of damage to aircraft during towing by lifting the aircraft off the ground. Further, an embodiment of the ground cart of the invention includes the ability to rotate the aircraft on a cart platform up to 90° from the direction of forward motion of the cart to facilitate movement in and around the airport apron/hanger and to counter cross winds during take off. In addition, carts may be controlled from the aircraft, for example to provide for steering control until the aircraft is launched, cart braking, platform rotation, and other maneuvers.

    摘要: A solar powered aerial vehicle includes an elongated airframe incorporating lifting and control surfaces, a mechanism for propelling the airframe through the air such that lift developed by the lifting surface is equal to or greater than the weight of the aerial vehicle, a planar solar sail coupled to the airframe and having at least one surface adapted to collect solar energy during the day and to power the propelling mechanism with a first portion of the energy collected, and an apparatus such as a fuel cell/electrolyzer for storing a second portion of the solar energy collected by the solar sail during the day and for powering the propelling mechanism with the second portion of energy during the night. The vehicle is capable of continuous operation at northern latitudes and during the winter months for extended periods without landing or refueling.

    摘要: Nonwoven fibrous sheets impregnated with latices of polyvinyl acetate or its copolymers containing polyvinyl alcohol, intended for use in pre-moistened condition as skin cleansing tissues, are folded and packaged in closed containers or in individual sealed water impervious envelopes; said packaged sheets being maintained in contact with a dilute aqueous solution of a precipitating or gelling agent for polyvinyl alcohol, such as boric acid. The agent imparts improved wet tensile strength to the sheet during storage and use by the consumer but permits the sheet to be safely disposed of, after use, by flushing in plain water without danger of clogging the plumbing system.
