摘要： Information or contents cannot be reproduced even from a regular storage medium which is encrypted in accordance with a predetermined encryption system, due to erroneous detection of watermarks. Detection of the watermarks and restriction over reproduction depending thereon is conducted only in a case where the medium is not encrypted. In case of detecting that the data is not encrypted in accordance with a predetermined encryption system by an encryption detection circuit and when the watermarks are detected by a watermark detection circuit, reproduction of the data is stopped by a reproduction restricting circuit. In a case that it is detected to be encrypted in the predetermined encryption system by the encryption detection circuit, the reproduction restricting circuit will not stop the reproduction thereof.

摘要： An authentication method for use in sending/receiving data between a coded data output apparatus for outputting coded data having a water mark, and a recording apparatus for recording data onto a recording medium, the method including: deciding a type of the recording medium used by the recording apparatus; based on a result of the deciding, selecting, from a plurality of authentication methods, an authentication method corresponding to the type of the recording medium, and conducting authentication between the coded data output apparatus and the recording apparatus, using the authentication method; sending/receiving data between the coded data output apparatus and the recording apparatus after conducting the authentication; and in a case where the coded data has the water mark, detecting the water mark by the coded data output apparatus, wherein the data exchanged between the coded data output apparatus and the recording apparatus is scrambled by a scrambling method corresponding to the type the recording medium.

摘要： A quick retry operation is possible by outputting an error flag pertaining to a sector after error correction processing of digital data. When an output of an error detection flag unit for a correction block indicates the existence of an uncorrectable error, the sectors are checked to see if the sectors corresponding to retrieved data include any error or not based on output from a sector error flag register B. When the sectors are judged as error, signals are retrieved again from a storage medium, restored in a memory, and an error correction processing is repeated again. The data such as that of P pictures or B pictures of MPEG which can be reproduced even with errors are output even when the error detection flag unit indicates the existence of the uncorrectable error. It enables identification of the sectors with the errors and simplifies the following operations pertaining to the error at a data receiving side by outputting the error flag along with the data.
