摘要: A head-mounted display apparatus wherein an image displayed on an image display device is projected on an observer's eyeball, which is designed so that the displayed image can be observed at a desired angle of view and at a desired magnification by making the projection magnification changeable. The head-mounted image display apparatus includes an image display device (11) for displaying an image, and a projection optical system for projecting the image displayed on the image display device (11) onto an observer's eyeball. The projection optical system is composed of a first relay optical system (12), a second relay optical system (13), and an ocular optical system (14). The second relay optical system (13), which is an afocal optical system, is rotatable about an axis (16) perpendicular to the optical axis so that the projection magnification is changed in three steps by the rotation of the second relay optical system (13).

摘要: An image display apparatus, e.g., a head-mounted display apparatus, which uses a half-mirror or a beam splitter prism and yet has an even more compact structure and provides a favorably flat image surface. A half-mirror (S) is obliquely disposed in front of an observer's eyeball (1), and an image display device (3), e.g., a liquid crystal display device, and a magnifying reflecting mirror (4) are disposed to face each other across the half-mirror (S) and to extend parallel to the observer's line of sight. To widen the field angle without increasing the size and weight of the optical system considerably, at least one surface (L) having positive refractive power is interposed between the eyeball (1) and the half-mirror (S). An even more compact arrangement is obtained by using a beam splitter prism in place of the half-mirror (S).

摘要: An image display apparatus designed so that the field angle for observation can be widened without causing the substrate of an image display device to interfere with the observer's head and without increasing the overall size of the apparatus. The apparatus includes a two-dimensional image display device (6), an optical path splitting device (4), and a concave ocular mirror (5). The image display device (6) is used as an object point of the concave ocular mirror (5), and the object point is projected in the air as an enlarged image for an observer (1) without effecting image formation in the optical path. In the image display apparatus, either or both the optical path splitting device (4) and the concave ocular mirror (5) are decentered so that the display center (7) of the two-dimensional image display device (6) can be shifted away from the observer's head with respect to a reference axis (8) which perpendicularly intersects the observer's visual axis (3) lying when he or she sees forward.

摘要: An image display apparatus designed so that the observer can view the image of an image display device without the need of manually adjusting the positional relationship between the observer's eyeball and a bundle of rays from the image display device which is to be projected into the eyeball. A positional relationship detecting section (46) observes the pupil of an observer's eyeball (44) and its vicinities, and detects where a bundle of rays from an LCD (42) is being projected. If it is detected that the ray bundle is not coincident with the pupil, motors (52a and 52b) are driven to move a first support (50a) and a second support (50b), which support the LCD (42), a backlight (43), and an ocular lens (45), so that the ray bundle passes through the pupil.

摘要: A head-mounted see-through display which enables an outside image and an electronic image to be selectively observed by making a liquid crystal shutter transparent or opaque. To eliminate the problem that during the observation of the electronic image the outside image is undesirably seen through the peripheral region of the electronic image, display light from a two-dimensional display device (11) is first transmitted by a half-mirror (12), and the transmitted light is reflected by a concave mirror (13). Then, the reflected light is reflected by the half-mirror (12) so as to be led to the observer's eye as an enlarged image. To prevent the outside light from entering the eye through the half-mirror (12) during the observation of the electronic image, a negative or positive type TN or STN liquid crystal shutter (10) is disposed in front of the half-mirror (12). When the electronic image is to be viewed, the shutter (10) is made opaque, whereas, when the outside image is to be viewed, the shutter (10) is made transparent.

摘要: A compact wide-view angle image display apparatus which displays an image by using an optical system. A lens unit (L1) is disposed on the optical axis (A1) of an LCD (11). A magnifying reflecting mirror (12) is disposed on an optical axis (A2) perpendicularly intersecting the optical axis (A1). A half-mirror surface (13) is disposed at a tilt on the intersection point of the optical axis (A1) and the optical axis (A2) so that the half-mirror surface (13) reflects a bundle of rays from the LCD (11) to the reflecting mirror (12) and transmits the ray bundle reflected from the reflecting mirror (12). A magnifying reflecting mirror (14) is disposed to face the reflecting mirror (12). A half-mirror surface (15) is disposed at a tilt on the intersection point of the optical axis (A2) and an observer's visual axis (AE) so that the half-mirror surface (15) transmits the ray bundle reflected from the reflecting mirror (12) to the reflecting mirror (14) and reflects the ray bundle reflected from the reflecting mirror (14) to project it into an observer's eyeball. A lens unit (L2) of positive power is disposed between the half-mirror surface (15) and the eyeball.
