The invention relates to an arrangement for testing a watchdog circuit wherein the pulses of a microcomputer to be monitored by the watchdog circuit are incrementally lengthened until the watchdog circuit responds and emits a corresponding reset signal to the microcomputer. The operational test of the watchdog circuit is repeated after each cold start of the microcomputer. This arrangement is especially suited for systems relevant to safety wherein the functional reliability of the individual components such as microcomputer and actuating elements are to be monitored.

The invention is directed to an arrangement for monitoring an electric consumer in a motor vehicle. The consumer can be actuated by at least one pulse-shaped control signal formed by a control unit with this actuation taking place via a switching device. This arrangement includes a device for detecting electric variables in the region of the consumer and a device for comparing these variables to pregiven limit values as well as a device for recognizing a fault on the basis of this comparison. The device for recognizing faults evaluates the comparison result for recognizing a fault condition pursuant to the actuating state of the electric consumer.

The invention is directed to a control system in combination with an internal combustion engine and/or a motor vehicle especially in connection with the air metered to the engine. An electrically actuable element for influencing an operating variable of the engine and/or of the vehicle is present. A control unit acts on the electrically actuable element by means of a pulse-shaped signal. At least one changeable parameter of the pulse-shaped signal is changed during a pulse dependent upon actual measured values.
