摘要： A dual mode cellular cordless portable radiotelephone preferentially selects the cordless base station over the cellular system when in range of the cordless base station. When the cordless cellular portable is operating in the cellular mode, the radio channel associated with the cordless base station is sampled for a predetermined time. When a signal on the sampled cordless base station channel is detected, the cordless portable moves to the cordless mode and remains in the cordless mode for as long as the signal quality of the signal on the cordless base station channel exceeds a predetermined value.

摘要： A method and apparatus reduces current consumption of a mobile communication unit, such as a cellular or mobile telephone that communicates with a base station by disabling a temperature controlled crystal oscillator and a code generator while the mobile communication unit is in a sleep mode of operation, thereby reducing the sleep mode current consumed by the mobile communication unit. Prior to entering sleep mode, the mobile communications unit stores the state of the code generator and disables the temperature controlled crystal oscillator. Upon waking from sleep mode, the mobile communication unit calculates what the state of its code generator would have been if its temperature controlled crystal oscillator had not been disabled, and uses this calculated state to achieve synchronization with a code generator in the base station.

摘要： A cellular cordless telephone may receive cellular telephone calls via a cellular telephone system and receive telephone calls on a system having a limited radio coverage area. To reduce the amount of time spent in monitoring the sub-data channel of the limited coverage area system, a timing signal is generated which represents the period of time spent monitoring the radio channel. During the monitoring, a predetermined number of data words transmitted on the limited radio coverage area radio channel system are received. When a first received data word is detected, an allowed monitoring time value is adjusted to be the sum of the value of the timing signal and the product of a determined number of received words to be detected and the time required for each word. This adjusted value of the monitoring time value is compared to the value of the timing signal and when the adjusted monitoring time value equals or exceeds the timing signal value, the monitoring of the radio channel ceases.
