The antifoam composition comprises a selected alkylaminosilicone, finely divided filler particles and a hydrocarbon carrier oil. Optional ingredients include oil/water surfactants and silicone oils. The alkylaminosilicone reduces the surface tension of the hydrocarbon oil and renders the formulation self-hydrophobing.

A composition and method for controlling tartar formation in the mouth is reported based upon phosphorylated polyhydroxy substances. These substances are formed by phosphorylation of a polyhydroxy starting compound of molecular weight no higher than 5000, have a molar substitution of at least 2 based on molecular weight of an average repeat unit in the starting polyhydroxy compound and possess phosphate ester linkages satisfying at least one criteria selected from:(a) at least one multi-substituted phosphate ester linked through an oxygen atom to a single carbon of the polyhydroxy compound; and(b) at least two monophosphate groups separated by no more than three carbon atoms.

The invention relates to the stabilization of mixtures of proteolytic and lipolytic enzymes in a liquid medium such as a liquid detergent composition. By inclusion therein of a stabilizing system comprising a polyol and a boron compound which are capable of reacting with each other whereby the polyol has a first binding constant with the boron compound of at least 500 l/mole and a second binding constant of at least 1,000 l.sup.2 /mole.sup.2, the stability of the lipase in the presence of the protease is significantly improved.The lipase is preferably obtained from Humicola lanuginosa, and the stabilizing system preferably comprises a mixture of sorbitol and borax.

The invention concerns detergent compositions comprising a special type of oxidation resistant nonionic surfactant and an oxidizing agent which may either be a hypochlorite or a peroxygen material. The surfactant component structurally comprises a C.sub.8 -C.sub.12 alkyl substituted phenoxy hydrophobe alkoxylated with ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide, with the proviso that the ratio of ethylene oxide to propylene oxide is at least 1 but no higher than 10. Methyl or chloroethyl groups are used to endcap the surfactant.

An improved high-internal-phase emulsion having increased stability under conditions of long term storage at elevated temperatures and freeze-thaw conditions, methods for preparing and stabilizing said emulsions and cosmetic preparations based thereon are disclosed. The improvement comprises incorporating into said emulsion an amount sufficient to increase the stability of said emulsion of an electrolyte contained in the aqueous phase of the emulsion.

Surface discoloration of water-in-oil emulsion type food spreads such as margarines can be reduced by incorporating into the fat or water phase of the spread a substance which makes the optical properties of the spread, when dehydrated, comparable to the optical properties of a freshly prepared spread. Titanium dioxide may be used for this purpose at levels as low as 0.1% by weight of the spread.
