A disazo dye composition comprising at least a disazo dye represented by the formula (I) and a disazo dye represented by the formula (II): ##STR1## (wherein X and Y indicate an alkoxy group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and M indicates hydrogen or a cation selected from the group consisting of, alkaline metal, NH.sub.4, alkyl-substituted ammonium, alkanolammonium, morpholinium and piperidinium), wherein, when the disazo dye composition is analyzed by liquid chromatography, the area ratio of the peak area (Sp) of the disazo dye represented by the formula (I) to the peak area (Sc) of the disazo dye represented by the formula (II), that is Sp:Sc is from 1:0.4 to 1:2.4. A yellow ink composition and a magenta ink composition are provided which have good properties satisfying requirements for a color ink jet recording ink, particularly a requirement that the color ink composition is less likely to cause clogging of nozzles, and can realize a printed image having excellent tone, waterfastness, storage stability, and lightfastness. Further, a color ink set comprising the above ink compositions in combination with a particular cyan ink composition and a particular black ink composition are also provided. An ink composition capable of offering a combination of a high-quality image with a waterfast image is provided. More specifically, an ink composition is provided which, by virtue of a combination of particular dyes, can faithfully reproduce black color, realize a high-quality image (a sharp image having a high optical density and free from bleed) also on plain paper and, at the same time, offer rapid ink fixation and waterfastness and lightfastness of the printed image. The aqueous fluid ink compositions include a humectant in combination with urea for efficiently lowering the freezing point without a significant increase in viscosity. Aqueous fluid ink compositions prepared in accordance with the invention include at least one humectant selected from the group consisting of aliphatic polyhydric alcohols, alkyl ether derivatives of the aliphatic polyhydric alcohols and acetate ester derivatives of the aliphatic polyhydric alcohols, urea, a water-soluble dye and water. Viscosity is maintained between about 2 and 3 centipoises at 20.degree. C. and a quick drying ink is provided by adjusting the pH to between about 12 and 13.5.

An ink jet recording method which can simply realize a plurality of resolutions in a single printer without varying the amount of ink per droplet is disclosed. An ink jet recording method comprises the steps of: selecting a recording medium; changing an image resolution depending on the selected recording medium; and ejecting ink droplets onto the recording medium to form ink dots thereon, wherein the amount of ink of the droplet is constant when the resolution is changed, and wherein the image resolution is changed so that ink penetrability or ink repellency of the recording medium makes the diameters of the ink dots on the recording medium fall in the range of from 100 to 160% of diagonal dot pitch of the resolution.
