摘要: A communications system connected to a telephone network includes a facsimile machine and a telephone set. The telephone set includes a telephone for conducting voice communications over the telephone network and a telephone answering machine for automatically responding to calls received by the telephone set over the telephone network. One or more operational parameters of the answering machine are set to define how it automatically responds to calls. A switch connects either the facsimile machine or the telephone set to a telephone network. One or more operational parameters of the answering machine is initially detected and stored. A controller controls the switch to connect either the facsimile machine or the telephone set to a telephone network based on a comparison of the stored parameter(s) and subsequently detected operational parameter(s) detected when the answering machine responds to a call.

摘要: A facsimile apparatus is provided which can enhance the operability and usefulness of portable image reading devices when transmitting documents and which allows effective utilization of the image reading device. The facsimile apparatus includes a main unit and a separable handscanner between which image signals and various control signals are transmitted using an optical communication technique. A document is scanned by a handscanner that generates signals representing the document image. The image signals are temporarily stored in an image memory and transmitted to the main unit when necessary. Depending on the hook state of the telephone, the main unit either transmits the received image signals to a remote station or records the image on recording paper. When the main unit receives image signals over a telephone network, the received image signals are transmitted to the handscanner for storage into the image memory when necessary. This is done for example, when the so-called memory reception mode is set or when a recording section in the main unit is in a non-normal state.

摘要: When a number of exothermic elements arranged linearly are used for printing, driving data are inputted to the gate circuits of each exothermic element, and the gate circuits are controlled by the strobe signals in the conducting/nonconducting state. The circuit gates are divided into groups and the strobe signals different for each group are inputted in sequence. At printing, when there is the group having a relatively small number or no exothermic elements being heated and driven, and the strobe signal is given to each group successively for any groups, the necessary driving time may be wasted. The operating speed many be improved if a plurality of strobe signals are outputted in parallel when the number of exothermic elements being heated and driven is relatively small, and if the corresponding strobe signals are stopped when there is no exothermic element, and outputting the next strobe signals immediately in both cases.

摘要: Here is disclosed a printer which, in an image mode of a standard resolution, decodes encoded image data of one line and executes printing on recording paper (22) twice based on the decoded image data. This printer can be applied to a facsimile apparatus. Such a printer comprises a detector (12) which detects whether the decoding has been completed up to the midpoint of each line. At the same time that the decoding of one line is started, a first printing is started based on other already decoded data, and at the same time that the completion of decoding up to the midpoint is detected, a second printing is started. Each time the first or the second printing is completed, the recording paper (22) is conveyed by a pulse motor (18) by a predetermined amount by the beginning of the subsequent printing. Therefore, irregularities in the printing operation and conveyed amount of the recording paper (22) can be diminished.
