Guide grooves which are slanted in mutually opposite directions in the sliding direction are provided on the inner surface side at which the slide members 43 face each other. Guide pins 37a and 37b guided to the guide grooves are provided on the upper and lower portions of the female connector 35. An operation lever 47 which can rotate around rotation supporting pins 57a is provided at one end of the upper and lower slide members 43. Since the upper and lower slide members 43 move in mutually opposite directions by the rotation of the operation lever 47, the female connector 35 is drawn into the hood section 27 of the male connector 25 when the slide members 43 and 45 slide in the mutually opposite directions.

The first connector housing and the second connector housing are coupled with each other wherein the locking projection has taper portions so as to become progressively smaller in projecting direction of a main body like a square pole at both side walls locating in the coupling direction. A spacing between both lower edges of said taper portions is set to be approximately equal to a spacing between both inner wall surfaces locating in an orthogonal direction to coupling direction at the locking hole.

There is disclosed an LIF connector in which a reverse insertion of a slider can be detected rapidly and easily although the connector has a simple construction. The LIF connector includes an LIF (low insertion force) mechanism in which a slider is slidable over a first connector through guides, and by sliding the slider, a second connector can be inserted into and withdrawn from the first connector. A pair of retractable projections are provided respectively on opposed side walls of the slider, and each of the projections has an inclined surface and a substantially vertical abutment surface. When the slider is inserted with directions of its front and rear ends kept proper, the inclined surface is brought into sliding contact with the associated guide to thereby retract the projection. When the slider is inserted with the directions of its front and rear ends reversed, the abutment surface abuts against the associated guide to thereby prevent the insertion of the slider.

In the fitting apparatus, a cover 23 is used as the lever member, and is formed with an opening 41 so as to be swingable to an electric wire withdrawal side of a female connector 25. When the cover is swung in the above manner, the electric wire withdrawal side is protected by the cover 23, and then, accompanying with the swing of the cover 23, an electric wire 29 is bent and oriented to a wiring direction, thus being led to the outside from the opening 41.
