    摘要: The present invention provides a multiple coil structure for supporting multiple types of charging and near field communications. The multiple coil structure includes an inner charging coil comprising a first conductor path forming one or more loops, wherein the direction of travel of the conductor path from an end point of the first conductor path is one of a substantially clockwise direction or a substantially counter-clockwise direction, and wherein the inner charging coil has an inner boundary and an outer boundary. The multiple coil structure further includes an outer charging coil comprising a second conductor path forming one or more loops, which extend around the outer boundary of the inner charging coil, wherein the direction of travel of the conductor path from an end point of the second conductor path is one of a substantially clockwise direction or a substantially counter-clockwise direction, and wherein the outer charging coil has an inner boundary and an outer boundary. The multiple coil structure still further includes a near field communication coil comprising a third conductor path forming one or more loops within the inner boundary of the inner charging coil, wherein the direction of travel of the conductor path from an end point of the third conductor path is one of a substantially clockwise direction or a substantially counter-clockwise direction.

    摘要: The present invention provides a hand held electronic device, which includes a near field communication element located proximate a top of the device, that is adapted for being selectively enabled. The hand held electronic device further includes a user identification sensor, which in at least some instances is a further near field communication element, and is adapted for confirming the identity of an authorized user of the device. The user identification sensor is located in a user holding area at a back side surface of the device. The user identification sensor is adapted for sensing a user interaction in an area proximate the back side surface of the device and receiving as part of the interaction, user identification information corresponding to a particular user presently using the device, and determining whether the user identification information corresponding to the particular user matches identification information for a predetermined authorized user. Upon confirming the identity of an authorized user of the device by the user identification sensor, the near field communication element located proximate the top of the device is enabled. When the identity of an authorized user of the device is not confirmed by the user identification sensor, the near field communication element located at the top of the device is not enabled.

    摘要: A near field communication (NFC) system includes a portable device having an embedded NFC antenna, an add-on module blocking the embedded NFC coil and an NFC transfer coil wrapped around the add-on module to eliminate blocking of the embedded NFC antenna. A predetermined set of NFC antenna tuning parameters is associated with each add-on module and is applied by the device's NFC controller upon identifying the docked add-on module. In an embodiment, the NFC transfer coil includes linked first and second NFC coils which replicate NFC signals in each other. The NFC transfer coil may include a ferrite shield between each of the linked NFC coils and the add-on module to minimize the creation of eddy currents that may degrade the performance of the embedded NFC antenna.
