A pre-tensioner of a seat belt device capable of securely and rapidly transmitting torque between a driven shaft and a rotational ring when the pre-tensioner is activated. The driven shaft projecting from a reel for retracting a seat belt is inserted into a housing and the rotational ring is positioned to surround a gear of the driven shaft. The rotational ring is provided with five guide faces in the inner surface thereof and pins are inserted into pocket portions of the rotational ring. Each pin is held at the both ends by an annular portion of a body and a cover. Stepped portions are formed along peripheries of both ends of each guide face to form spaces.

A belt pretensioner is provided for a vehicle safety belt system having a retractor from which and onto which a belt is arranged to be unwound and wound by rotation of a reel shaft. The pretensioner includes a pulley carrying a pulley gear and is ordinarily restrained in a position in which the pulley gear does not engage a shaft gear on the reel shaft and a pulling cable having a pulley-engaging segment wound onto the pulley and having a pulling segment leading from the pulley in a pulling direction to a power source arranged to pull on the cable and translate the pulley to engage the pulley gear with the shaft gear and rotate the pulley such the gears rotate the reel shaft and pretension the belt by winding it onto the reel shaft. The pulling cable has a pulled segment leading away from the pulley-engaging segment from the end thereof opposite the pulling segment in a direction substantially aligned with the pulling direction. A portion of the pulled segment frictionally engages fixed braking surfaces on the retractor. The pulley is restrained by the pulling and pulled segments of the pulling cable in a position in which the gears are not engaged.

The blocking device includes a solenoid and an electric power circuit for energizing the solenoid having a seat slide switch that is responsive to movement of the seat release lever for controlling the energy state of the solenoid so that the blocking device prevents movement of the movable member in response to operation of the seat release lever to release the seat for adjustment and a delay circuit for maintaining the energy state of the solenoid established by operation of the seat slide switch for a predetermined period of time after the seat slide switch has been operated. The power circuit may also have a switch that is responsive to insertion of a buckle tongue into the buckle for controlling the energy state of the solenoid such that the blocking device prevents movement of the movable member of the inertial starting mechanism when the buckle tongue is not inserted into the buckle.
