摘要:
A method of sensing magnitude of lumen depreciation not only of a lamp of a lighting fixture, but other factors, by sensing a relative light level external of the lighting fixture to derive not only lamp lumen depreciation but total lumen depreciation from the fixture. An apparatus of monitoring light level of one or more lighting fixtures comprises a sensor positioned external of the lighting fixture(s), a comparator adapted to compare a measured actual lumen output signal from the sensor to a pre-set reference or threshold lumen output value. An error signal is generated by the comparator if the comparison indicates actual lumen output to have dropped below the reference or threshold lumen output. An alarm or communication can be actuated by the error signal to instruct corrective action to ensure relatively constant light levels to be maintained for the lighting system over time, thus providing ongoing assurance to the end user of proper system operation.

An apparatus, method, and system for increasing usable light to a target area. One aspect of the invention includes a lighting fixture with a visor. The visor includes an opening through which a controlled amount of light is allowed generally upwardly. A controlled amount of light within provides some uplighting above the target area or above the fixtures. In another aspect of the invention, a lighting system with a plurality of lighting fixtures would have at least some of the fixtures fitted with the visors with the openings to create a cumulative uplighting effect.

An apparatus and method for keeping a high intensity discharge arc tube relatively horizontal in a light fixture regardless of aiming orientation of the light fixture towards a target. In one aspect, the light source is mounted in an independently pivotal yoke in the light fixture. A gearing arrangement automatically proportionally pivots the light source relative to any pivoting motion of the fixture over a range of motion such that a selected light source orientation can be approximately maintained regardless of aiming orientation of the fixture.

A high intensity discharge (HID) light fixture includes a reflector frame which supports an independent high reflectivity reflecting surface. The reflector frame supports a glass lens with anti-reflective coatings on its surfaces and a visor or extension that also supports an independent high reflectivity reflecting surface. The high reflectivity reflecting surface has various sections that adjust portions of the beam created by the fixture to better place light on a target area. The reflector frame is attachable to a lamp cone. An adjustable knuckle attaches between to a cross arm on a pole and the lamp cone. An HID lamp, when mounted in the lamp cone, has its arc tube substantially surrounded by the high reflectivity reflecting surfaces of the reflector frame and visor. A lamp positioning mechanism automatically adjusts orientation of the arc lamp over a range of pivot angles for the lamp cone relative the knuckle. The HID lamp has an increased metal halide salt pool and does not include white oxide coatings at opposite ends. The lamp and the lamp positioning mechanism are configured to position the arc tube of the lamp horizontal over the normal range of aiming angles for the fixture. The modified HID lamp, its operating position, the high reflectivity reflecting surfaces, and other aspects of the fixture produce more light from the fixture than without these features for the same amount of energy to operate. Optionally, a ballast circuit can save energy over operating life of the lamp.

An apparatus and method for a high intensity lighting fixture. One aspect, a knuckle for mounting the light fixture by its bulb cone to a cross arm is attached along the side of the bulb cone. This has various potential advantages including decreased effective projected area, protection of watering to the bulb cone, and decreased moment.

An apparatus and method for reducing lumen depreciation caused by other than lamp lumen depreciation. In one aspect, manufacturing and assembly of the fixture uses clean-room light techniques. In another aspect of the invention, materials that have a propensity to outgas are shielded from direct exposure to light energy. Other aspects of the invention include other methodologies to eliminate causes for lumen depreciation.
