    摘要： Sample inspection apparatus comprises a pair of magnet assemblies (28A, 28B) located in a common cryostat (10) and surrounding respective bores (24, 26) at room temperature so as to define corresponding working regions (30, 32) in the bore. A first, NMR probe (6) can be inserted in one of the bores to bring a sample into the corresponding working region, the magnetic field in that working region having a homogeneity or profile suitable for performing a NMR experiment. A second probe (5) can be inserted in the other of the bores to bring a sample into the other working region, the magnetic field in that working region having a homogeneity or profile suitable for performing a different experiment on the sample.

    摘要： A method of identifying pattern in a series of data, or curve, includes: first converting a curve to a permutation by relabelling the data points with their rank; second, segregating the set of all permutations into clusters of different sizes with respect to some map: permutations mapped to the same number are assigned to the same cluster. From this, one can write an alternative description of any curve, from which the original curve can be fully recovered. The length of this description is a bound on its AIC. The difference between this bound and the length of the original curve in bits, or Shannon information of the curve, is the number of bits k by which the curve can be compressed. The compression k is used to order a collection of curves in decreasing order of significance.

    摘要： An aggregation apparatus including: a computer, an output device, a display controlled by the computer, and networking hardware connecting the computer to a network, the computer programmed so that the aggregation apparatus: communicates with at least one computer via the Internet to obtain peer-to-peer information corresponding to real time data shared by at least one other computer; processes the peer-to-peer information to produce an aggregation; and then renders the aggregation as output; and then presents at least some of the aggregation and at least one of at least some of the information in a customizable user interface, at least some of the aggregation in association with an automatically generated score that represents a level of communication activity, and at least some of the information in a user interface which includes an automatically generated list of contacts and their associated recent activity.
