    摘要: The present invention provides a bright and high-resolution display apparatus having a dynamic range exceeding the number of gray-scale voltage (or current) outputs, which a signal driver is capable of generating. In accordance with the present invention, a select period, in which a group of pixels on each row is driven, is divided into a plurality of sub-periods. The signal driver supplies a voltage output varying from sub-period to sub-period to selected pixels through a signal electrode. The pixel is capable of expressing various values of a gray scale, the size of which is at least approximately equal to (the number of gray-scale voltage outputs, which the signal driver is capable of generating)×(the number of sub-periods). By changing the ratio of the length of a sub-period to the length of another sub-period or the range of the driving voltage (or current), the dynamic range of the display can be further increased.

The display apparatus according to this invention has a rear substrate 1 including an electrical insulating substrate 10 on which are formed a large number of cold-cathode elements 19 for emitting electrons, a display substrate 101 including a light-transmissive substrate 110 which is disposed facing the rear substrate 1 and on which are formed the fluorescent materials 111 that emit light when excited by the electron beams sent from the cold-cathode elements 19, and a frame member 116. A metallic sheet 120 in which a large number of fine-structured holes 122 each containing one fluorescent material 111 and for forming a light-emitting region are provided in matrix form is disposed on the light-transmissive substrate 110. Color filters that transmit the rays-of-light of desired colors, emitted from associated fluorescent materials, are provided between the light-transmissive substrate containing the fine-structured holes, and the fluorescent materials.

The display unit includes an FED panel in which scan lines, data lines, and electron supply devices are positioned at the intersections of the data lines and scan-lines. Electron emission devices selected by the selection signal are driven by the drive signal. A signal corrector circuit individually corrects the drive signal to be supplied to each data line to compensate for a voltage decrease caused by the wiring resistance in each column of the scan lines.

    摘要: When a video signal is double-speed processed by the first device, a slight vertical deflection process is performed for redundant similar scan lines by the second device, and any slight deflection in the second device is controlled by the first device to enable setting so as to display images with excellent resolution. The first device generates a discrimination signal to designate interlaced scanning and flag a need for vertical scan-line deflection, and such signal is provided to the second device such that the second device can always appropriately determine need for vertical scan-line deflection. Through monitoring for the discrimination signal, an image display apparatus can prevent vertical resolution from deteriorating when video signals possibly requiring vertical line-shifting are inputted from an external source, and can prevent vertical resolution from deteriorating when displaying images of video signals having different systems within different areas on the same screen.
