Abstract:
A method is applied on an active matrix display. A pixel element includes a capacitive element, a nonlinear element, and a resistive element. The method includes the following steps: (1) selecting multiple pixel elements as selected pixel elements; and (2) charging the selected pixel elements. The step of selecting a pixel element includes applying a voltage to a first terminal of the resistive element in the pixel element to drive the nonlinear element into a conducting state. The step of charging a given selected pixel element includes generating a predetermined current that passes through both the nonlinear element in the given selected pixel element and the resistive element in the given selected pixel element.
Abstract:
An improved remote control for interactive televisions is disclosed. The conventional remote control is improved by adding a light-scope as a remote-pointing device for defining an aiming point on the television screen. The light-scope consists of a photo detector and a lens system that defines a very narrow filed of view. An LED, driven by an electric signal converted from the light signal entering the light-scope, is used to create a communicating light signal. The communicating light signal, which is to some extent a replica of the light emitted from the aiming point, is sent back to the television for determine the aiming point.
Abstract:
Trapped field magnets (TFMS) on an NMR logging tool are used to produce a static magnetic field in a formation surrounding a borehole. The TFMs are made of material having a high Tc, so that the magnetic field can be sustained for the duration of the well logging by enclosing the TFMs within a cryostat containing liquid nitrogen as a coolant. By using the TFMs, the field strength within this region is much higher than is attainable with conventional magnets, giving an improved signal to noise (S/N) ratio for the NMR signals. The magnetic field strength within the TFMs is kept at a low enough value that instability problems associated with these materials do not arise. The field strength may be selected based upon knowledge of the resistivity and dielectric constant of the formation and the associated skin depth for electromagnetic signals. This makes it possible to use the TFMs in both wireline and measurement while drilling (MWD) environments. In one embodiment of the invention, the TFMs are magnetized outside the borehole environment using conventional high field strength electromagnets prior to emplacement within the cryostats. In another embodiment of the invention, vortex currents within the TFMs are induced in situ over a period of time, so that the power requirements for the inducing field are attainable in a borehole environment. A pulsed radio frequency (RF) magnetic field is produced using an RF antenna in the NMR tool that is orthogonal to the direction of the static magnetic field. The NMR pulse echo signals induced in the formation indicative of a parameter of interest in the formation is received by a receiver on the tool

The method includes determining the boundary of a quadrilateral on the viewing screen having a shape thereof depending upon at least one of the location of the viewing screen and the surface orientation of the viewing screen. The method also includes the following: displaying a boundary-identifier to specify the boundary of said quadrilateral on the viewing screen that is substantially transparent; detecting one or more positions being touched on the viewing screen; and determining at least one mapped position on the display screen under a mapping operative to map said quadrilateral on the viewing screen to a rectangular on the display screen under a prospective transform.
Abstract:
A display device includes a matrix of pixel elements and a matrix of photo-detecting elements. The display device also includes an interface port accessible from the outside of the display device and configured to output a representation of a position of an invisible light spot on the display screen generated from an invisible light beam projected thereon with a spreading angle less than 20 degrees. The position of the invisible light spot is determined based on measurement from the photodetectors in the matrix of photo-detecting elements.
Abstract:
Method of driving a pixel element having a first capacitive element, a first transistor, and a compound-switch that includes at least one switching transistor and at least one secondary switching element. The method includes (1) setting the bias voltage of the first transistor to a value that is substantially close to a threshold voltage of the first transistor at the end of a first time period after starting changing a voltage across the first capacitive element at the beginning of the first time period, and (2) writing a pixel data into the pixel element to change the bias voltage of the first transistor to a target value that is different from the threshold voltage of the first transistor during a second time period while keeping the compound-switch at conducting state. The first time period is at least three times as long as the second time period.
