    Abstract: A combined guide rail for an elevator system includes a car guide rail portion to guide an elevator car along an elevator car travel path and a counterweight guide rail portion to guide a counterweight of the elevator system along a counterweight travel path. A connecting portion extends from the car guide rail portion to the counterweight guide rail portion. The car guide rail portion, the counterweight guide rail portion and the connecting portion are formed together as a single unitary structure from a single piece of material.

    Abstract: An elevator system (2) comprises a hoistway (4) extending between a plurality of landings (8a, 8b, 8c); an elevator car (60) configured for moving along the hoistway (4) between the plurality of landings (8a, 8b, 8c); a load/weight sensor (44) configured for detecting the load of the elevator car (60); a speed detector (34) configured for detecting the speed of the elevator car (60); and an elevator safety system. The elevator safety system comprises a safety gear (20) configured for stopping, upon activation, any movement of the elevator car (60); and an electronic safety controller (30) configured for activating the safety gear (20) when the detected speed of the elevator car (60) exceeds a set speed limit. The electronic safety controller (30) is configured for setting the speed limit as a function of the load detected by the load/weight sensor (44).

    Abstract: A governor includes a housing, a pulley, a belt, a first flyweight, and second flyweight. The housing defines a housing cavity. The pulley is disposed at least partially within the housing cavity. The belt is in contact with the pulley. The belt is operable to rotate the pulley at a rotational speed. The first and second flyweights are pivotably connected to the pulley, and are biased towards one another. At least a portion of the first and second flyweights are operable to move away from the pulley when the rotational speed of the pulley is increasing toward a predetermined threshold rotational speed. The first and second flyweights are operable to contact the housing, and thereby transmit rotational energy to the housing, when the rotational speed of the pulley is equal to at least the predetermined threshold rotational speed.
