    摘要: Methods and systems for managing contaminants are described. One exemplary method ejects fluid from multiple ejection chambers of a printing device in a pattern designed primarily to create fluid flow to move a contaminant present in fluid contained in a fluid-feed channel configured to supply fluid to the multiple ejection chambers. Responsive to the ejection, the method moves fluid in the fluid-feed channel sufficiently to move a contaminant in a desired direction within the fluid-feed channel.

    摘要: Disclosed is a novel multi-chamber ink-jet print cartridge (pen) that is formed of a main body member divided into three sections, a center section, and two side sections. Cover members are attached to this main body section to define three ink chambers. Each ink chamber contains a synthetic foam member that receives a respective one of three primary colored inks. The main body member is molded to be a single unitary part, so that the only ink-to-ink sealing interface between inks of different colors occurs at the interface between the main body member and the printhead. The main body member is formed to have a center ink pipe that extends upwardly into compressive contact with the foam member in the center chamber, and two side ink pipes that extend outwardly in a direction orthogonal to the center ink pipe into compressive contact with the foam held in the side ink chambers. The disclosed multi-chamber pen thus allows for a narrow pen body with a small printhead, yet also provides for a large volume of ink in each of the three ink chambers, without the need for a separate manifold member and the disadvantageous introduction of additional ink-to-ink interfaces.

    摘要: An ink cartridge for a thermal ink jet printer containing a separate collapsible ink reservoir which is kept under negative pressure by a pressure regulator to prevent ink leakage. The collapsible reservoir has a pair of flexible plastic membrane ink bag sidewalls each connected at their periphery to form an ink bag and an ink pressure regulator in the bag. The pressure regulator comprises a pair of spaced parallel side plates urged apart by a spring toward the adjacent bag sidewalls whereby the reservoir is collapsible against the spring pressure to an essentially flat shape to permit substantially complete dispensation of ink from the bag. Inadvertent puncture of the thin bag walls by the regulator is prevented by a protective edge guard in the form of a layer of tough plastic bonded to the outer surfaces of the sideplates, the protective layers each having a peripheral edge which extends beyond the edge of the side plate to prevent the edges of the sideplates from directly contacting the bag walls. The regulator is centrally positioned and held in place between the flexible membrane bag walls, preferably by heat bonding of the bag walls to the edge guards.

    摘要: An adhesive joint with an ink trap is provided. The joint may be employed in a cartridge for an inkjet printer. The cartridge includes a headland region attached to a printhead assembly by an adhesive layer. The adhesive joint between the headland region and the printhead assembly include notches for retaining additional adhesive in order to reduce degradation of adhesive due to ink penetration. A method of assembling the printer cartridge to include an ink trap in the adhesive joint is also provided.
