摘要: An electrical treater for resolving water-in-oil dispersions in a first enclosure positioned above a second enclosure in a shipboard mounting. The first enclosure contains dispersion inlet means, oil phase removing means and a coalescing section containing an electrical field to effect separation of the dispersion into continuous oil and water phases. An upright passageway transfers the water phase from the first enclosure to the second enclosure into a water accumulator with a body accumulated water being maintained below the upright passageway. Flow control means associated with the upright passageway provide for relatively unobstructed downward flow and restricted upward flow of the water phase between the first and second enclosures.

摘要: An electrical field treater operating from three phase AC current for resolving a dispersion formed of a continuous oil phase containing a dispersed water phase. The treater comprises a metal vessel which includes a dispersion inlet and outlets to remove the continuous oil phase and coalesced water phase. A transformer arrangement, energized from three phase AC current, provides in three secondary windings elevated voltages for energizing three electrodes mounted in electrical isolation within the vessel. Two of the secondary windings are phased 120o apart and energize the electrodes mounted to each side of the third electrode. The third electrode is energized by a third secondary winding which is phased 60o apart from the other two secondary windings. High tension conductors interconnect the secondary windings with the electrodes. As a result, the side positioned electrodes are energized to substantially the same potential magnitude relative to the third electrode, and all electrodes are at the same potential relative to the metal sidewalls of the vessel.

摘要: A PROCESS FOR TREATING A HEAVY PETROLEUM DISTILLATE CONTAINING NAPHTHENIC ACIDS BY THE ADDITION OF AN AQUEOUS METAL HYDROXIDE. THE RESULTANT MIXTURE, AFTER INTIMATE CONTACT, FORMS A DIRECT EMULSION AND CONCOMITANTLY A SMALL PORTION OF AN INVERSE, MAYONNAISE-LIKE WATER CONTINUOUS EMULSION THE EMULSIONS ARE SUBJECTED TO AN ELECTRICAL FIELD WHICH SEPARATES A RELATIVELY PURE HEACY PETROLEUM DISTILLATE PHASE FROM A AQUEOUS MIXTURE OF THE METAL HYDROXIDE SALTS OF THE NAPHTHENIC ACIDS AND THE INVERSE, MAYONNAISE-LIKE EMULSION. THE AQUEOUS MIXTURE IS REMOVED PROMPTLY FROM THE ELECTRIC FIELD AND THEN PASSED DOWNWARDLY THROUGH A BED OF POROUS MATERIAL, WHICH MATERIAL IS PREFERENTIALLY WATER WETTED WHEREBY THE AQUEOUS MIXTURE IS SUBSTANTIALLY AND COMPLETELY SEPARATED INTO A HEAVY PETROLEUM DISTILLATE PHASE AND AN AQUEOUS PHASE CONTAINING THE METAL HYDROXUDE SALTS OF NAPHTHENIC ACIDS.
