摘要： A method of efficiently adjusting a timeline in a time window. An application program displays a window that includes a graphical user interface (GUI), at least a portion of time-based data, a timeline, and a slider bar. If a click and drag occurs while a cursor is over the slider bar, the application moves the slider bar and changes a position of data displayed in the window by an amount corresponding to the movement. The application increases the timeline scale if the slider bar reaches an edge of the timeline. If a click and drag occurs while the cursor is over a handle on an edge of the slider bar, the application resizes the slider bar and adjusts the timeline scale to correspond to the slider bar scale. If additional time-based data is available and is not displayed, the application displays an indicator on a corresponding edge of the timeline.

摘要： An interactive online tutorial system is disclosed for providing instruction in the use of a software product operating on a data processing device. The data processing device including an instruction processing unit or CPU, a data storage resource, an input system for receiving input from a user via a mouse or keyboard, and an output system for generating output images on a video display. The tutorial system includes a first display control for generating a tutorial window in a first portion of the video display. A second display control is provided for generating a product window in a second portion of the video display. A tutorial presentation system selectively generate a plurality of tutorial text panels in response to input from the input system. The tutorial text panels include one or more lesson panels and one or more step panels associated with each lesson panel. A tutorial panel linking system links the lesson panels through a series of sequential links and links the lesson panels and their associated step panels through a series of hierarchical links. A series of tutorial panel selectors are provided for selectively activating from a lesson or step panel a link to another lesson or step panel in order to display the linked panel.

An application displays a portion of a unit of information in a first window on a display, and another portion of the unit of information in a second window on the display. The first and second windows are concurrently displayed on the display. The application closes the second window on the display. The closing inserts an indicator representing the second window into the unit of information and removes the second window from the display. The unit of information does not comprise the indicator prior to closing. In response to an interaction involving the indicator, the application redisplays another portion of the unit of information in a third window on the display. The first window and the third window are concurrently displayed on the display. Prior to redisplaying, the indicator is displayed in the first window.

An application performs a close operation of windows displaying portions of a unit of information on a display. The portions of the unit of information are content of the unit of information. The close operation removes the windows from the display, and causes positioning information to be stored in the unit of information. The positioning information comprises at least one indicator of the portions of the unit of information that were displayed in the windows at a time of the close operation. The application performs an open operation. The displayed portions of the unit of information at the time of the close operation are redisplayed by the open operation in windows on the display in accordance with the positioning information in the unit of information.

An electronic device is associated with a subscriber and is in communication with a data distribution network configured to deliver data by a service provider to the subscriber. The electronic device comprises a first memory communicatively connected to the server. The first memory is configured to receive and store data from the server and it is accessible by the subscriber. A second memory is also communicatively connected to the server. The second memory is configured to receive and store data from the server, though the second memory is accessible only by the service provider.
