    摘要： A customer-replaceable module having a fusing subsystem therein for a electrophotographic printer or copier includes three separate devices for detecting potentially dangerous temperature conditions within the module. A first thermal cutoff spaced from the fuser roll can detect high temperatures caused by incorrect software operation and hardware failures. A second thermal cutoff contacting the fuser roll outside of the paper path can detect failures associated with software malfunctions and paper shielding the first thermal cutoff. A thermistor contacting the fuser roll in the paper path can interface with the control software of the printer or copier itself. The thermal cutoffs function entirely independently of the control software of the printer or copier. The module may further include an electronically-readable memory for recording failure conditions.

    摘要： An architecture of a fuser subsystem in an electrophotographic printer or copier includes a web which cleans the fuser roll. The web is driven by a mechanism which enables a constant velocity of the web relative to the fuser roll surface without the need of separate motor or controller. The design can further compensate for changes in frictional coefficient between the fuser roll and the web, such as is caused by large deposits of toner collected on the cleaning web.

    摘要： A heating device, which can be used in the fixing unit of an image forming apparatus, such as an electrophotographic copying or printing machine, for fixing a toner image on a final substrate. The heating device which is in the form of a heated fuser roller is provided with bands or coatings of material which impede the transfer of heat from the fuser roller to bearing structure associated therewith. The bands or coatings are applied by plasma spraying a ceramic material on either the surface of a fuser roll core or on journals of end caps, depending upon the specific construction of the fuser roller.

The fuser has a first pressure member configured to be inflatable comprising one or more radial webs configured to extend between an external portion of the first pressure member and an internal member of the first pressure member. The fuser also has a second pressure member that having a surface that faces a surface of the first pressure member at a region defining a fusing nip. The second pressure member is configured to cause a deformation of the first pressure member to cause, at least in part, a selectable strip radius.
