摘要: There is described a photographic element in which increased exposure latitude is obtained by having a dye-forming coupler in a non-light-sensitive interlayer between two light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layers. One of the silver halide emulsion layers is sensitive to a first region of the spectrum and contains a dye-forming coupler that forms a dye complementary in color to the region of the spectrum to which that layer is sensitive. The second emulsion layer is sensitive to a second region of the spectrum and contains a second coupler that forms a dye complementary to the second region of the visible spectrum. The exposure latitude in the layer sensitive to the first region of the spectrum is increased when the coupler in the interlayer forms a dye complementary in color to the second region of the spectrum, but as a function of development in the first region of the spectrum.

摘要: An imaging element is described comprising one or more hydrophilic colloid layers which include gelatin as a film forming binder which has been chemically crosslinked with a gelatin hardener, wherein at least 20% of the gelatin of at least one of the one or more hydrophilic colloid layers comprises a gelatin prepared from hydrolysis of ossein using sodium or potassium hydroxide, and the gelatin is chemical crosslinked with a gelatin hardener at a level from 70 to 120 effective &mgr;mole hardener per gram of gelatin. Improvements are obtained in the wet mechanical strength of an imaging element comprising gelatin as a binder, without needing to increase the amount of chemical crosslinker with respect to the gelatin. The invention further enables the use of relatively low molecular weight gelatins without compromising the wet mechanical strength of imaging elements and without needing to increase the amount of crosslinker relative to the amount of gelatin. The invention also enables the selective improvement in the wet mechanical properties of layers with a high ratio of non-binder materials to binder without substantially increasing the amount of chemical crosslinker.

摘要: A novel process and apparatus for multistage contacting of two materials advantageously provides high chemical efficiency and low losses of components of one of the materials caused by that material being carried out of the process with the other material. The process comprises contacting, in a series of stages, a first material with a second material containing a component whose concentration therein is reduced by such contact. Replenishment material is introduced to at least one of the stages to compensate for such concentration reduction. The concentration of the component in the second material is highest in one of the stages, and the first material carries a part of the second material out of each stage. The first material is contacted with the second material at least one once in each stage of the series. Contacting is done in a sequential manner such that, in respect to the first material, contacting occurs in at least one of the stages other than the stage having highest component concentration, then in the stage having highest component concentration, and then in at least one of the stages other than the stage having highest component concentration. Replenishment material is introduced to the stage having highest compnent concentration. Second material is transferred from the stage having highest component concentration to at least one of the other stages.

摘要: The invention is accomplished by forming balanced cyan, magenta, and yellow coupler and emulsion mixes. There is at least one layer in which silver halide emulsion has been sensitized to blue light or silver halide emulsion sensitive to green light. Regardless of the color sensitivity of the silver halide layer that contains silver contains a mix of cyan, magenta, and yellow dye-forming couplers. Further, in order to have a black-and-white image that has a lightness such as observed by the human eye in a scene, it is preferred that the ratios of red sensitive emulsion to green sensitive emulsion to blue sensitive emulsion in the photographic element is about 2:3:1.
