Abstract:
An electromechanical cylinder lock includes an outer lock shell and a rotatable lock barrel located therein which is controlled by dual locking features. A side bar or fence selectively blocks and permits rotation of the barrel with respect to the shell in response to insertion of a key into a keyway in the barrel. A slider bar is movable between a blocking position in which the side bar is prevented from permitting rotation of the barrel, and an unblocking position in which the side bar permits rotation of the barrel. Alternately, a blocking mechanism is provided to block motion of tumbler pins in the cylinder lock. A shape memory alloy actuator, such as a wire made of nitinol, disposed in the barrel is activated by an electric current in response to determination by an electronic control device whether an attempt to open the lock is authorized. Thermal interlock protection from external heating of the lock is also provided.

Abstract:
An automotive headlight assembly includes a concave parabolic reflector having a focal axis and a focal point on the axis spaced from the reflector surface. A halogen light source is mounted on an elongated tubular conduit that is oriented on the focal axis of the parabolic reflector. A power mechanism is connected to the tubular conduit for sliding the conduit through a clearance opening aligned with the focal axis, so that the light source is moved between a high beam position on the focal point and a low beam position located at a different point the focal axis, through an infinite number of in between positions, thus allowing the driver to adjust the focal point of the light to any desired distance.
Abstract:
A card game is played according to rules that provide point values for the natural cards and face cards in each game participant's hand. The object of the game is to achieve a point total in any one suit coming closest to a target point value without exceeding the target value. The winning hand is the hand that has a point value in any one suit closest to the target value without exceeding the target value.
Abstract:
A cutting tool assembly comprises a cutting tool having a plurality of cutting edges which is held in a desired cutting position by a tool holder. The tool holder comprises an elongate body having a bifurcated end defining a pair of spaced tool gripping members and a tool receiving opening between which the cutting tool is releasable clamped in a vise like action. Each of the tool gripping members include a pair of opposed contoured faces each having a retaining wall for complementally abutting certain cutting edges of the tool in order to prevent rotation of the cutting tool relative to the holder. One edge of the cutting tool extends outwardly beyond the holder adjacent one corner of the tool receiving slot so as to be disposed in cutting relationship to the workpiece which is to be cut. The holder includes an inclined face immediately adjacent the exposed cutting edge of the tool and in blocking relationship to chips cut from the workpiece in order to deflect and eventually break the chips as they are removed from the workpiece. The cutting tool may be removed from the holder by simple loosening a clamping screw which controls the spacing between the gripping members, without the need for completely removing such screw.

An electromechanical cylinder lock includes an outer lock shell and a rotatable lock barrel located therein which is controlled by dual locking features. A side bar or fence selectively blocks and permits rotation of the barrel with respect to the shell in response to insertion of a key into a keyway in the barrel. The barrel includes a plurality of electromechanical locking members with grooves formed therein, the locking members being movable to a position in which the grooves are aligned to accept the side bar or portions thereof. An electromagnetic core disposed in the barrel is energized in response to a control device which determines whether an attempt to open the lock is authorized, the magnetic core rotating the electromechanical locking members to a desired position relative to the side bar to allow rotation of the barrel. The locking members may be flat disc-shaped elements with a portion cut out to form a groove. As the electromagnetic core (or other electronically powered drive mechanism) and the locking members are substantially entirely contained in the barrel, mechanical cylinder locks may be retrofitted to form an electromechanical lock by removing and replacing the purely mechanical barrel with the electronically driven barrel.
Abstract:
A microprocessor fault logging arrangement includes a detector for detecting hardware and software faults 3, 4, 8, which produce an interrupt signal which is applied to the non-maskable interrupt input NMI of microprocessor 1 and, which is also applied via delay circuit 5, to the RESET input of microprocessor 1. The NMI input causes microprocessor 1 to store the state of selected system parameters in a log of fault records stored in a non-volatile memory 2, the selected parameters being stored for fault analysis each time an NMI input signal is generated interrupt signal is applied to the NMI input. The delay circuit 5 allows sufficient time for the selected parameters to be stored in the non-volatile memory 2 before the microprocessor is reset.
