Methods and apparatuses of simultaneously monitoring GSM channels are provided. One feature pertains to a method of monitoring radio channels in a wireless communication device that includes associating with a serving base station by establishing, at least periodically, a communication link with the serving base station. A method can also include receiving a signal having a bandwidth using a first receiver, where the signal includes a plurality of channels each associated with a first technology type network, and the plurality of channels includes a first channel associated with the serving base station and at least a second channel associated with a non-serving base station.
