A method and a device for mapping and demapping a client signal are provided. The method for mapping a client signal includes: dividing a part or all of a payload area of an Optical Channel Payload Unit (OPU) or Optical channel Data Tributary Unit (ODTU) into several sub-blocks, in which the sub-blocks have a size of N bytes, and N is greater than or equal to 1; and mapping a client signal to be transported to the sub-blocks of the payload area with an N-byte granularity. In the technical solutions, when the client signal is mapped, block mapping of the client signal is performed by using a mapping granularity of a block, so that the complexity of the mapping process of the client signal can be reduced, thereby meeting requirements of multi-rate services.

The embodiments of the present application relate to the field of communications technologies, and disclose a method for adjusting bandwidth of a flexible Optical channel Data Unit (ODUflex) channel. The method includes: respectively adjusting, according to a bandwidth adjustment indication message, a quantity of time slots occupied by an ODUflex frame in a higher order optical channel data unit (HO ODU) at an egress side of each network node on an ODUflex channel; and adjusting, according to a rate adjustment indication message, a transmission rate of the ODUflex frame of each network node on the ODUflex channel, so as to unify the transmission rate of each network node on the ODUflex channel.

A method for transporting a client signal in an optical transport network (OTN) includes steps as follows. A byte number Cn of a client signal transported in a current OTN frame period is generated according to a client signal clock and a system clock. If the Cn of the current OTN frame falls in a certain range, a predetermined area in an optical channel payload unit-k (OPUk) overhead field is identified as normal, and the Cn is filled in the OPUk overhead field of the current OTN frame. Therefore, the reliability for transporting the client byte number can be improved and an OPUk overhead byte space needed for transporting the client signal byte number can be saved.

Through the embodiments of the present invention, fully transparent transmission of an OTU signal can be implemented.
