    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for preparing ureido methacrylate comprising the step of contacting, in the presence zinc acetylacetonate (Zn(acac)2) and a radical inhibitor, methyl methacrylate with 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)imidazoline-2-one to form ureido methacrylate. The method provides an efficient and environmentally friendly way of making a key monomer used in the synthesis of acrylic latexes.
