Abstract: Disclosed herein are aqueous coating compositions containing an anionically stabilized polymer, one or more derivatized polyamines, and a volatile base. Coating compositions can farther include one or more additional copolymers, which may or may not be anionically stabilized, and/or additional additives, including pigments, defoamers, pigment dispersing agents, thickeners, surfactants, and combinations thereof. By incorporating a derivatized polyamine, such as an alkoxylated polyamine, the setting time of the coating compositions can be decreased. Also provided are coatings formed from the coating compositions described herein, as well as methods of forming these coatings.

Abstract: Disclosed is a coating composition that generally includes a waterborne alkyd resin including urethane groups and a crosslinking acrylic latex resin. An alkyd resin and an acrylic latex resin can be included in a composition in relative amounts to yield a cured coating that has a higher pendulum hardness than that of a coating formed from an otherwise identical composition that excludes the acrylic latex resin. The composition can be formulated such that solids of said waterborne urethane alkyd resin and solids of said crosslinking acrylic latex resin are present in a mass ratio ranging from 20:80 to 80:20 with respect to one another A method of preparing a coating composition generally includes blending relative amounts of an alkyd resin and an acrylic latex resin.

Abstract: Provided herein is a method for pretreating aluminum materials, particularly aluminum wheels, wherein an aluminum material is successively i) cleaned and subsequently rinsed, ii) optionally subjected to alkaline pickling and subsequently rinsed, iii) optionally contacted with an aqueous composition comprising at least one mineral acid, iv) optionally rinsed and v) contacted with an acidic aqueous composition comprising a) at least one compound selected from the group consisting of titanium, zirconium and hafnium compounds and b) at least one linear terpolymer prepared by controlled radical polymerisation and comprising vinylphosphonic acid monomeric units, hydroxylethyl- and/or hydroxylpropyl-(meth)acrylate monomeric units and (meth)acrylic acid monomeric units, vi) optionally rinsed, vii) optionally contacted with another aqueous composition, viii) optionally rinsed and ix) optionally dried. Further provided herein is a corresponding composition as well as the use of the materials treated according to the method.

An aqueous coating composition comprising said multistage aqueous emulsion polymer.
