The foldable seat proper is secured to the side walls of a shell shaped center part which in turn is supported by a base to which the shell shaped center part is removably connected. The shell shaped center part has a rear wall, the upper end of which is permanently connected to head rest means, if such head rest means are employed. Further, the side walls may be provided with telescoping means so that the side walls and the seat along with the corresponding portion of the back rest may be extended or retracted. In a modification one chair may be converted into a desk for the chair behind the converted chair.
