摘要： Methods are provided for reducing the water content of optical waveguide fibers produced from blanks having a centerline aperture and having compositions which prevent cooling of the blank to room temperature between consolidation and drawing. In accordance with certain aspects of the invention, the water content is reduced by storing the blanks at as low a temperature as possible, preferably below about 550.degree. C. In accordance with other aspects, the water content is reduced by filling the apertures of the blanks with an inert atmosphere during storage.

摘要： A ceramic hot-gas candle filter having a porous support of filament-wound oxide ceramic yarn at least partially surrounded by a porous refractory oxide ceramic matrix, and a membrane layer on the outside surface of the porous support. The membrane layer is formed of an ordered arrangement of continuous filament oxide ceramic yarn which is at least partially surrounded by a porous refractory oxide ceramic matrix. The filter can withstand thermal cycling during backpulse cleaning and is resistant to chemical degradation at high temperatures.
