摘要: An apparatus and method for the robust recognition of speech during a call in a noisy environment is presented. Specific background noise models are created to model various background noises which may interfere in the error free recognition of speech. These background noise models are then used to determine which noise characteristics a particular call has. Once a determination has been made of the background noise in any given call, speech recognition is carried out using the appropriate background noise model.

摘要: A system inserts one or more background sounds in a telephone call between a calling party and a called party. The system includes a network node coupled to a first telephone used by the calling party and a second telephone used by the called party. The network node is further coupled to an audio source. One or more background sounds are stored on the audio source. The calling party dials into the network node. The network node presents a menu of background sounds to the calling party who selects at least one background sound. The calling party then enters the phone number of the called party. The network node initiates the telephone call to the called party over a first telephone channel, and then inserts the selected background sound retrieved from the audio source onto the telephone channel. If a multi-party call is requested by the calling party, the calling party can select different background sounds that are inserted by the network node onto the telephone channel for each called party.

摘要: A network that establishes a telephone call between a calling party and a called party and alters speech signals generated by the calling party during the telephone call. The network includes a network node that is coupled to the transmit channel of the calling party and the receive channel of the called party. The network node is programmed to receive a request to establish the telephone call from the calling party and receive a selection of a speech signal alteration from the calling party. The network node initiates the telephone call to the called party. Further, the network node alters the speech signal of the calling party based on the speech signal alteration selection.

摘要: The present invention relates to a system and method for automatically verifying that a message received from a user is intelligible. In an exemplary embodiment, a message is received from the user. A speech level of the user's message may be measured and compared to a pre-determined speech level threshold to determine whether the measured speech level is below the pre-determined speech level threshold. A signal-to-noise ratio of the user's message may be measured and compared to a pre-determined signal-to-noise ratio threshold to determine whether the measured signal-to-noise ratio of the message is below the pre-determined signal-to-noise ratio threshold. An estimate of intelligibility for the user's message may be calculated and compared to an intelligibility threshold to determine whether the calculated estimate of intelligibility is below the intelligibility threshold. If any of the measured speech level, measured signal-to-noise ratio and calculated estimate of intelligibility of the user's message are determined to be below their respective thresholds, the user may be prompted to repeat at least a portion of the message.

摘要: A system and apparatus provides a voice message of a calling party to a called party. The method includes the steps of initiating a telephone call to the called party over a first network and receiving the telephone call at a network node within the first network. The method further includes the steps of determining whether the called party is on-line a second network and receiving the voice message from the calling party. The method further includes the steps of converting the voice message to a digital file and sending an electronic mail message that includes the digital file to the called party.

摘要: An automated telephone call designation system includes a database that stores a plurality of keywords where each keyword is associated with at least one topic designation. The system monitors the conversation of an ongoing telephone call by utilizing voice recognition software resident in a network to detect the use of the keywords in the conversation. The keywords used in the conversation are correlated to the topic designation(s) associated with the keywords. Based on the correlation of the keywords to the topic designation(s) associated with the keywords, a topic for the ongoing telephone call is designated. A third party that desires to join an ongoing conversation of interest reviews the topics of the ongoing conversations and is bridged into the conversation of interest.

摘要: A network based language translation system is provided. A network is provided that has language translation software installed on the network. A user communication device that is interconnected to the network is utilized to communicate with the network. The user communication device both inputs text and/or spoken communications into the network and receives text and/or spoken communications from the network. The network is able to receive communication inputs from multiple users in multiple languages and translate and transmit output communications to those users in languages designated by the users.

摘要: Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and computer-readable storage media for processing a message received from a user to determine whether an estimate of intelligibility is below an intelligibility threshold. The method includes recognizing a portion of a user's message that contains the one or more expected utterances from a critical information list, calculating an estimate of intelligibility for the recognized portion of the user's message that contains the one or more expected utterances, and prompting the user to repeat at least the recognized portion of the user's message if the calculated estimate of intelligibility for the recognized portion of the user's message is below an intelligibility threshold. In one aspect, the method further includes prompting the user to repeat at least a portion of the message if any of a measured speech level and a measured signal-to-noise ratio of the user's message are determined to be below their respective thresholds.
