摘要: A distinctive absorbent article includes an absorbent core having multiple absorbent layers, wherein the absorbent layers interact in such a manner which preferentially locates absorbed liquid in an appointed, high saturation wicking layer. The localization of the liquid within this wicking layer increases the potential of this layer to move liquid through capillary action due to the higher saturation level and increased amount of liquid available. The intake capability of the absorbent system is maintained or improved over current systems by keeping a second layer of the absorbent system at low saturation levels through as many insults of the product as possible, while providing optimum intake performance through appropriate control of the composite properties. The low saturation in this layer provides void volume for the incoming insult as well, as a high permeability, thus increasing the intake rate of the absorbent system as a whole, but the structure of the low saturation layer is also balanced to provide an appropriately high level of capillary tension to provide enough control of the liquid to stop leakage from occurring. This low saturation layer is used in addition to a surge material and provides intake functionality in addition to that provided by the surge material. In particular aspects of the invention, the body side layer of the absorbent core does not extend over the entire surface of the overall absorbent core, therefore is not used as the high saturation, wicking layer, but as the intake layer. This arrangement also allows the intake layer to be in direct contact with the incoming liquid, therefore allowing for more immediate access and improved intake function.

摘要: A method is disclosed for determining the efficiency of an absorbent article having first and second absorbent layers. The method comprises the steps of selecting a density for the first absorbent layer and for the second absorbent layer. A basis weight for each of the first and second absorbent layers is selected which is at least about 100 grams per square meter. A desired percentage of a superabsorbent to be present in each of the first and second absorbent layers is also selected. The percentage of a superabsorbent present in the first absorbent layer is greater than the percentage of a superabsorbent present in the second absorbent layer. The selected densities and percentages of a superabsorbent are then inserted into the following formula: V≦[(100−% SAM2)×(d2−d1)]+[(% SAM1−% SAM2)×d2)] In this formula: % SAM1 is the percentage of a superabsorbent present in the first absorbent layer; % SAM2 is the percentage of a superabsorbent present in the second absorbent layer; d1 is the density of the first absorbent layer expressed in gsm; d2 is the density of the second absorbent layer expressed in gsm; and V is the desired value to form an efficiency absorbent article. The selected densities and the selected percentages of a superabsorbent in the first and second absorbent layers are then adjusted to obtain a value “V” which is at least equal to 2.

摘要: A method of making an elastic composite is provided. The method entails conveying a first web of material along a web plane path. The method also entails applying a first section of a first elastic strand onto the first web and generally transversely to the web plane path and applying a second section of a second elastic strand onto the first web and generally transversely to the web plane path. These applying steps are repeated while performing the conveying step, thereby arranging a plurality of first and second elastic elements on the first web, in generally parallel relation to one another. The resultant composite is suitable for incorporation into a disposable absorbent garment, textile or fabric structure, and the like.
