    摘要： Apparatus and methods are disclosed by which a closed ventilating system accommodates multiple access to the respiratory system of an intubated medical patient. Access to the respiratory system is accomplished via one or more access ports through an attached accessory device in order to ventilate the lungs of the patent with gas or gasses, aspirate secretions from the lungs, oxygenate the lungs, visually inspect selected parts of the respiratory system, sample sputum and gasses, sense parameters such as flow rates, pressure, and temperature, flush the respiratory tract with washing solution, and/or administer medication, gasses, and/or lavage. The embodiments of the present invention may have such accessory devices permanently fixed to the adaptor or may be removable and replaceable. Access control means may be provided whereby one or more access ports are selectively aligned with the adaptor in order to allow passage of an attached accessory device therethrough.

The apparatus further comprises a manual stationary insertion guide for introduction of the suction catheter tube into the respiratory system of the patient and control stop structure which accommodates insertion into the respiratory system of the patient of only a predetermined length of the suction catheter tube. The apparatus also comprises structure by which the flow of secretions through the suction catheter tube can be visually monitored.

    摘要： An aspirating/ventilating or aspirating apparatus comprising multi-lumen catheter tubes, for evacuation of lung secretions and for other functions as well. Two and three lumen catheter tubes which comprise three unique distal catheter end structures are disclosed. Material comprising oxygen-containing gas is introduced into the lungs under positive pressure through a first lumen of the catheter tube at a predetermined rate while secretions (and gas) are simultaneously aspirated from the lung into a second lumen by force of negative pressure. Oxygen gas inflow is controlled to equal gas outflow to maintain the partial pressure of oxygen into the lung at a high respiratory level. In a first distal catheter end structure, an oxygen-containing gas is introduced through the first lumen as a circumscribing jet around the second lumen to provide fluid flow turbulence external to a second lumen to improve homogenization of localized secretions resulting in more efficient aspiration. In a second distal catheter end structure, oxygen gas inflow is introduced into a common chamber at the distal end of the catheter, where effluent secretions are being aspirated, causing gas produced homogenization in the turbulence created by influent/effluent flow at the common distal catheter entry/exit port. In a third distal catheter end structure in a three lumen catheter, provision is made for independent introduction of medication and/or lavage solutions into the lungs via a third lumen into a common entry/exit port. Provision is made for monitoring pressures and flow rates through the catheter tube.

    摘要： A ventilating/aspirating apparatus, and related methods, the apparatus comprising a catheter tube for evacuation of lung secretions wherein the distal end portion of the catheter tube is disposed at a substantial angle in respect to the remainder of the catheter tube whereby entry into the left lung of a patient may be predictably and accurately tended to without appreciable trauma to the patient. A removable angle retainer is provided for maintaining the configuration of the distal end portion of the catheter tube during storage, prior to use. Radiopaque indicia, selectively located within the wall of the catheter tube, is provided by which the entry of the distal end portion of the catheter tube into the lungs and particularly the left lung of the medical patient can be insured through accurate monitoring visually or by using available radiological techniques.
