    摘要: An apparatus and method for detecting infected tissue are disclosed. The apparatus comprises a light source for producing a light beam and an optical element having an input end optically coupled to the light source and an output end arranged to direct the light beam as a confocal beam into tissue. The apparatus also comprise a detector optically coupled to the optical element to receive a return beam back from the tissue stimulated by the confocal beam and to generate an output dependent upon the return beam. An analyser is arranged to analyse the output of the detector to determine whether the return beam is indicative of infected tissue. The use of a confocal beam allows it to be directed to a specific predetermined point or depth in tissue, such as a tooth, thus eliminating the ‘swamping effect’ of the bulk background tissue. Thus an embodiment of the apparatus is more sensitive at detecting infected tissue.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for detecting the presence of the viable cells in an endodontic sample in or taken from an endodontic cavity in the tooth, such as the root canal, enables the rapid and low cost identification of the presence or absence of bacteria or other viable cell tissue in the endodontic space by first incubating a viable cell indicator with an endodontic sample for a pre-determined period suitable for chair-side test and then measuring and/or detecting a change in a parameter (e.g. fluorescence) associated with the viable cell indicator. Thereby, the required level of root canal treatment can be reached which minimizes the risk of re-infection without the time, cost and potentially harm of over-preparation and over treatment by the dental surgeon or of a re-treatment.

    摘要: An apparatus and a computer-implemented method are provided for determining a location in a target image (T) of a site on a surface of a physical object using two or more reference images (I1, I2) of said physical object that have been obtained with a reference imaging device. Each of said two or more reference images includes said site on the surface of the physical object and was obtained with the reference imaging device having a different position and/or orientation relative to said physical object. The target image is obtained by a target imaging device and includes the site on the surface of the physical object. For each reference image, a set of feature mappings from the reference image to the target image is used to determine the epipolar geometry between the reference image and the target image, and a projection of the site from the reference image onto the target image is calculated from said epipolar geometry. The location in the target image of the site on the surface of the physical object is determined from the calculated epipolar projections for the two or more reference images.

    摘要: A gas burner including a burner body having a lower housing, an inlet conduit and a combustion surface element attached to the lower housing. A diffuser/reflector positioned within the body encourages even distribution and mixing of a combustible gas/air mixture. The diffuser/reflector is preferably of a sheet metal construction and includes a plurality of stamped openings with each of these openings having an overhanging guide plate. The combustion surface element includes a plurality of integrally formed rigidizing ribs and is made from a high temperature steel alloy wire cloth. The inlet conduit is secured directly or indirectly to an access door/bulkhead that is used to close off an access opening formed in a water heater wall through which the burner is installed. In one construction, an air scoop shrouds the inlet conduit and at least partially defines a flow path of primary air, substantially isolated from the combustion chamber.
