摘要: A machine for inspecting a container which is being conveyed along a linear path. The machine has spaced left hand and right hand cabinets in front of the linear path with the space therebetween being space in which an operator can stand to be proximate to the linear path. The machine has left hand and right hand inspection stations which include a left-hand assembly located in front of the linear path and a right hand assembly located in front of the linear path. These assemblies are pivotally mounted about vertical axes so that they can be pivoted from a closed position proximate the liner path to a retracted position away from the linear path. At the retracted position an operator can enter the machine and service the inspection stations.

摘要: An apparatus and method for rotating glass containers and like wares for purposes of inspection is disclosed that uses a compact, modular apparatus which has a drive system that automatically accelerates the wares to full rotation speed while applying only the amount of contact force to the wares that is required to rotate them. The apparatus of the present invention is compact and thus consumes minimal volume in the area near the glass container being rotated. The apparatus for rotating glass containers of the present invention has an outstanding ability to move quickly into contact with a glass container and accelerate it to its full speed without damaging it or being damaged by it, and presents a low degree of impact to glass containers.

摘要: A bottle inspection machine is disclosed which has a starwheel feeder and an outfeed mechanism for receiving bottles from the starwheel feeder. The outfeed mechanism has an inner belt conveyor which has a pickoff wheel adjacent the starwheel feeder and a second wheel. At least one drive belt is supported by the pickoff and second wheels for defining a linear outfeed belt portion. The outfeed mechanism also has an outer serpentine belt conveyor which has an idler wheel located radially inwardly from the pick off wheel which defines an opening for receiving a bottle displaced by the starwheel feeder and a third wheel. At least one flexible serpentine belt is supported by the idler and third wheels which are located to define a location where a bottle will be discharged from the outfeed mechanism. The serpentine belt is sufficiently flexible so that a bottle displaced into the opening between the pickoff and idler wheels will be conveyed by the serpentine and inner belts with the serpentine belt changing its configuration as the bottle is conveyed to the discharge location.

摘要: A machine for inspecting the heal code of a bottle. The bottle is supported vertically at an inspection location and a camera having an imaging area is located vertically beneath the bottle. A light source directs a beam of light downwardly through the bottle and an iris for limits the beam to light which pass through the opening of the supported bottle and will illuminate the bottom of the supported bottle outwardly to the heal code of the bottle. A cylindrical mirror is supported coaxial to the axis of the bottle between the bottom of the bottle and the camera for reflecting an annular beam of light containing the heal code towards the camera, and a transparent plate having a black center prevents light within the annular beam of light from reaching the camera.

The machine has cabinets situated in front of the conveyor path at either side of a central open area in front of the conveyor path which is to be used by an operator for servicing the conveyor. The interior sides of these cabinets are open for access to electronics and the central opening is closed by a pair of doors which are releasably attached to the sides of the cabinets and can be push in to provide access to the central area and can be pulled from the cabinets to provide access to electronics through the open sides of the cabinets.

摘要: An infeed mechanism for a glass container inspection machine which will receive bottles on a linear conveyor and which has a support to which the infeed mechanism can be secured. The infeed mechanism has a timing cam and a frame is provided for supporting the timing cam at the bottom thereof which includes a first box like frame for rotatably supporting the timing cam at the bottom, a servo motor secured to and within the first box like frame, a vertically extending transmission supported by the first box like frame for transferring the output of the servo motor downwardly to the rotatable timing cam, a second frame, above the timing cam for supporting first frame for relative vertical displacement, and a mounting plate located vertically above the second frame for supporting the second frame for relative horizontal displacement transverse to the linear conveyor so that the infeed mechanism can be mounted by securing the mounting plate to a machine frame with the infeed mechanism above the linear conveyor.

The rotation of the servo motor is stopped when power has been removed by shorting regenerative resistors to the three motor leads.
