The system includes an internal speaker having an audio port, which is positioned within the ear of the user, and is adapted for producing a signal having one or more frequencies. The system further includes an internal microphone having an audio port, which is positioned within the ear of the user, and is adapted for detecting a resulting signal including the signal produced by the internal speaker and any corresponding signal reflections. A determination is then made as to whether the resulting signal detected by the internal microphone matches the corresponding predetermined expected signal, based upon a prestored hearing profile.

    摘要: An ultrasonic communication system includes an omnidirectional ultrasonic transducer including a housing having a closed side and an open side defining an aperture in the housing. A diaphragm is mounted into the housing to form a sealed cavity between the diaphragm and the closed side of the housing. A second side of the diaphragm is free to transmit ultrasonic signals through the aperture. The diaphragm and aperture both have a largest dimension that is less than or equal to one-quarter wavelength of an ultrasonic signal to be transmitted by the transducer, such that the transducer behaves as a monopole and radiates substantially omnidirectionally.

A housing of the portable radio telephone has an ear placement region on a front surface thereof. A speaker is disposed in the housing behind the ear placement region. The ear placement region is adapted to be held against a user's ear to provide private operation creating a first air volume between the user's ear and the ear placement region. In a preferred embodiment, an air path between the first air volume to a second air volume at the back surface of the housing includes at least a first port positioned within the ear placement region, an air cavity within the housing, and at least a second port positioned at a back surface of the housing.

The dual earpiece arrangement (26) includes a handsfree transducer (28) that generates dispatch-level audio output in a handsfree operating mode of the telecommunication device, and a private-mode transducer (38) that generates private-level audio output in a private operating mode of the telecommunication device. In particular, the device (10) includes a cantilevered bender (30) having a first end and a second end wherein the first end of the bender is mounted to the housing (16), a diaphragm (32) having a first end and a second end wherein the first end of the diaphragm (32) is attached to the second end of the bender (30), and a surround (34) joining the second end of the diaphragm (32) to the housing (16). The bender (30) drives the diaphragm (32) in a reciprocating manner to generate dispatch level audio output. The private-mode transducer (38) is positioned within a cavity of the diaphragm (32) for generating private-level audio output.     摘要: Loudspeaker systems for handheld devices (2400, 2500) such as cellular telephones (100, 1400, 1600, 1900) are provided. The loudspeaker systems include at least one omnidirectional monopole loudspeaker (404, 1504, 1802, 1918, 1920) and at least one dipole loudspeaker (402, 1502, 1804, 1914, 1916). Filtering is used to compensate for differences between electric-to-acoustic signal transfer functions of the loudspeakers in order to achieve destructive interference of emitted audio in one direction and reinforcement in another direction. Various loudspeaker systems that are reconfigurable from directional mode, to omnidirectional mode are provided. Filtering is also used to add a frequency dependent phase to one signal in order to alter a direction of maximum sound pressure level. Two monopole-dipole pairs can be used to produce a stereo effect. The monopole and dipole loudspeakers can be housed in a detachable loudspeaker accessory (200).
