    Abstract: A micro-machined ultrasonic transducer is proposed. The micro-machined ultrasonic transducer includes a membrane element for transmitting/receiving ultrasonic waves, during the transmission/reception of ultrasonic waves the membrane element oscillating, about an equilibrium position, at a respective resonance frequency. The equilibrium position of the membrane element is variable according to a biasing electric signal applied to the membrane element. The micro-machined ultrasonic transducer further comprises a cap structure extending above the membrane element; the cap structure identifies, between it and the membrane element, a cavity whose volume is variable according to the equilibrium position of the membrane element. The cap structure comprises an opening for inputting/outputting the ultrasonic waves into/from the cavity. The cap structure and the membrane element act as tunable Helmholtz resonator, whereby the resonance frequency is variable according to the volume of the cavity.

    Abstract: An apparatus includes a test circuit to receive signals from a piezoelectric horn and a control circuit to determine whether to operate the apparatus in a silent test mode or a normal mode. The apparatus includes a control circuit to, based on a determination to operate in the normal mode, enable a driver circuit to drive the piezoelectric horn so as to output sound when activated by the driver circuit. The test circuit is to, based on a determination to operate in the silent test mode, cause the piezoelectric horn to generate a piezoelectric response, wherein the piezoelectric horn is silent while generating the piezoelectric response during the silent test mode, and cause evaluation of whether or not the piezoelectric horn is working correctly based upon the received signals from the piezoelectric horn.

    Abstract: A piezoelectric sounding component includes a diaphragm that includes a metal plate and a piezoelectric body formed on the metal plate. The diaphragm bends and vibrates according to application of voltage to the piezoelectric body. A casing that includes a bottom wall, side walls, and a supporting portion to support the diaphragm in inside edge portions of the side walls. The side walls extending from edges of the bottom wall in a thickness direction and includes a first wall, a second wall positioned to face the first wall, and a third wall positioned between the first wall. Two or more terminals that are formed on the first wall or the third wall serve to apply voltage to the diaphragm. Two or more elastic adhesives join the side walls and the diaphragm between the two or more terminals and the diaphragm. Two or more conductive adhesives are formed on the two or more elastic adhesives and join the two or more terminals and the diaphragm. The diaphragm is supported by the supporting portion and accommodated in the casing so that a gap formed between the first wall and the diaphragm is smaller than a gap formed between the second wall and the diaphragm.
