摘要: An upper guide system for a solenoid actuated fuel injector of an internal combustion engine includes an armature having a first diameter section, a reduced diameter second section, and a concave portion at the transition between the first and second sections. The guide system also includes a guide shaped to extend into the concave portion of the armature and includes a central opening that slidably receives the second diameter section. The guide positions and guides the armature in a radial and an axial direction. The guide is assembled in an axial location that is close to the axial location of the center of the magnetic force acting on the armature. The guide system allows for a desired relative large guide length to diameter ratio.

摘要: A protection device for a lower guide system of a fuel injector includes a debris shield deflecting a fuel flow around a lower guide system and a particle trap collecting particles contained within the fuel flow. By deflecting the fuel flow towards flow passages around the lower guide system, the particles contained in the fuel flow are prevented from entering a lower guide area, such as a radial gap between the stationary components of the lower guide system and the moving component of the valve assembly. The particle trap may be defined in a lower housing of the fuel injector or may be integrated in the debris shield. The debris shield may be integral with a valve assembly or may be a separate component. A permeable area may be integrated in the debris shield to enable partial flow therethrough.

摘要: A dual-coil outwardly-opening fuel injector including a fuel tube connected at a lower end to a lower injector housing. Within the fuel tube are a lower (opening) solenoid pole piece, a specially-formed armature, and an upper (closing) solenoid pole piece. A seat assembly including an injector nozzle, swirler, and valve seat are adjustably threaded into the lower housing. A pintle assembly, including a solid pintle portion supporting a valve head and a tubular portion welded thereto, is axially disposed within the fuel tube and is welded to the armature which is spaced from the lower pole piece by a distance equal to the opening stroke of the valve. A return spring adjustment mechanism disposed on the upper pole piece engages the upper end of the pintle assembly for varying the closing force of the return spring. Opening and closing solenoid preassemblies are mounted external to the fuel tube for magnetically engaging the pole pieces and armature within in known fashion.

摘要: A fuel injector that includes a sliding armature, decoupled armature, or flying armature movable between a pintle stop and a housing stop. Flying armatures are generally used to increase the total force applied to the pintle stop for lifting the pintle off a nozzle seat to open the fuel injector. When the fuel injector is turned off, a housing stop is arranged to absorb kinetic energy present in the flying armature so that the kinetic energy is not imparted to the nozzle seat.

摘要: An upper guide system for a solenoid actuated fuel injector of an internal combustion engine includes an armature and a guide ring having a cylindrical shape and surrounding the armature and positioning the armature in a radial direction. The location of the upper guide system is substantially in the same axial location as the radial magnetic forces imposed on the armature. Features such as flutes or grooves are disposed on an outer diameter surface of the armature and/or holes through a body portion of the armature. Accordingly, the response performance of the solenoid actuated fuel injector is improved.

摘要: A fuel injector for an engine includes a continuous endoskeletal injector tube enclosing an imperforate continuous passage for fuel flow from an inlet end to an outlet end of the tube. A valve seat, injection valve, tubular magnetic pole, biasing spring and adjusting sleeve are mounted within the tube, optionally with other elements, all being exposed to fuel in the passage defined by the tube. A solenoid coil and a magnetic body together with mounting components and seals are mounted on the exterior of the tube where they are protected from exposure to the fuel, which is restricted to passage within the continuous tube. The body, pole and armature form a magnetic flux concentrating path operative to attract the armature to the pole and open the valve when the coil is energized. The solenoid coil may be preassembled with its connector in a body forming a separate coil assembly for subsequent installation on the injector tube. During assembly, the tubular pole may be adjusted to set the desired stroke of the injection valve prior to fixing the pole in the tube. Various other features are also disclosed.

摘要: A fuel injector that includes a flying armature movable relative to a pintle stop, and an electromagnetic circuit configured to move the flying armature away from the pintle stop prior to accelerating the armature toward the pintle stop as part of moving the pintle to open the fuel injector. The flying armature increases the total force applied to the pintle to open the fuel injector by supplementing the static force imparted to the armature by a magnetic field with an impact force imparted by the armature being in motion toward and impacting with the pintle stop. The arrangement of magnetic circuit devices and materials used to make the magnetic circuit devices cooperate to provide a reversing force that urges the armature away from before urging the armature toward the pintle stop, and increases the rate at which the force that urges the armature toward the pintle stop increases.

摘要: A coupling for suspending a fuel injector from a fuel rail assembly of an internal combustion engine includes a collar that mates with the fuel injector and a retainer clip that engages with the collar and with an annular flange of an injector socket thereby mechanically connecting the fuel injector to the fuel rail assembly. The retainer clip includes windows having a convex profile to enable even load distribution upon the socket flange when assembled. Coincident keyed features are integrated in the flange of the injector socket and in the collar to facilitate correct alignment of the injector relative to the fuel rail. Paired together, the retainer clip and the collar enable a secure, and coincident keyed fuel injector-to-fuel rail connection that is able to withstand high pressure separating loads.

摘要: A rack and pinion gear train actuator for a pintle valve. A motor shaft has a pinion gear that engages a large reduction gear having an integral hub gear. The hub gear is a planet gear for a ring gear segment that pivots on a shaft and includes a pinion gear segment that engages a linear rack. The rack is attached to a valve pintle shaft, causing the valve to be opened and closed in response to rotation of the motor shaft. The pintle shaft, return spring, rack, and gears are all assemblable by slip fit. The actuator has a high actuation force, a fast response time, and compact design by virtue of a rack and internal gearing. The stroke of the rack may be changed for use with pintle valves having differing strokes by varying the angle through which the motor operates.
