    摘要: A wireless local area network that carries mixed traffic of voice and data communications may be provided. The wireless local area network may include an access point and a plurality of remote terminals that are associated with the access point. The access point may be operably coupled to a wireline network. The access point may receive voice and other communications packets from the remote terminals and the wireline network. Some of the packets may be for transmission to the remote terminals. The access point manages which packets to transmit and when to transmit packets. The access point may manage traffic to maintain a fair distribution of packets and to give priority to voice communications over other communications.

    摘要: A call button attached to a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag may be activated to send an alert to appropriate personnel. Direct current voltage is received at an input of a RFID tag. Responsive to a query of an RFID reader, the RFID tag detects a state of the call button based on a level of the direct current voltage present at the input of the RFID tag. The RFID tag sends the detected state of the call button to the reader. A signal is sent from a server based on a reported state of the call button.

    摘要: Systems and methodologies for direct device-to-device transfer of configuration information, such as network information, are provided herein. As described herein, network keys and other information can be transferred from a device that stores and/or utilizes the information to one or more devices to be initialized on a corresponding network. Network information can be communicated using audio tones, light pulses, and/or other similar signals to facilitate transfer of network information using one or more hardware components present at devices involved in the transfer for other purposes and without requiring specialized hardware. Systems and methodologies disclosed herein enable new devices to a network to be programmed by an already-programmed device, thereby reducing the need for off-site network initialization in cases where a small number of devices are to be added to an existing population. In addition, secure transfer of network information without exposing the information in a transferable format is facilitated.

    摘要: Serially-distributed access points in a communication network include a cable including network communication wires, a plurality of access points connected in series with the network communication wires along a length of the cable, and a headend interface connected at one end of the cable and operable to provide a communication interface with the access points. Low-cost access point chipsets are used to build an enterprise-class communication network by embedding many low-cost, consumer grade access point chipsets into a single cable. The distance between the chipsets is small enough so as to create many microcells.

    摘要: A portable data input or computer system includes an input/output device such as a keyboard and a display, another data input device such as an optical bar code scanner, and a data processor module. To scan bar code type indicia, the operator points the scanner at the bar code and triggers the scanner to read the indicia. All the system components are distributed on an operator's body and together form a personal area system (PAS). Components may include a scanner or imager, a wrist unit, a headpiece including an eyepiece display, speaker and a microphone. Components within a particular PAS communicate with each other over a personal area network (PAN). Individual PASs may be combined into a network of PASs called a PAS cluster. PASs in a particular PAS cluster can communicate with each other over another wireless communication channel. Individual PAS can gain access to a Local Area Network (LAN) and/or a Wide Area Network (WAN) via an access point. Individual PASs can use devices, such as servers and PCs situated either on the LAN or the WAN to retrieve and exchange information. Individual PAS components can provide automatic speech and image recognition. PAS components may also act a telephone, a pager, or any other communication device having access to a LAN or a WAN. Transmission of digitized voice and/or video data can be achieved over an Internet link.
