摘要: A uterine length measurement device includes a first elongate member having a distal end, a proximal end, and a lumen, the elongate member configured for insertion into an endocervical canal where the distal end is configured for insertion to approximately an internal cervical os of the endocervical canal. A second elongate member is provided having a distal end and a proximal end, the second elongate member configured to move within the lumen of the first elongate member, where the distal end can protrude from the distal end of the first elongate member and is configured for insertion to approximately the fundus of a uterine cavity. Moving the second elongate member relative to the first elongate member to position the distal end of the second elongate member at approximately the fundus of the uterus provides a direct measurement of a length of the uterine cavity.

摘要: A uterine sound is configured having an open and a closed position. Under normal operating conditions, the uterine sound is in the closed position for insertion into a uterus to measure the length of the uterus. Under conditions where there is a risk of the uterine sound perforating a uterine wall, the uterine sound switches into an open position. The open position provides an enlarged surface area of a distal end of the uterine sound that is in contact with a uterine wall and resists perforation by the uterine sound of the uterine wall.

摘要: A medical device and procedure is described for occluding a fallopian tube. A tubal occlusion device is inserted into a uterine cavity. The device includes an RF applicator head including an electrode carrier with one or more bipolar electrodes thereon. During insertion, the RF applicator head can be in a closed position. The RF applicator head is positioned at a tubal ostium of a fallopian tube, such that a distal tip of the RF applicator head advances into the tubal ostium. The RF applicator head is deployed into an open position such that the RF applicator head approximates the shape of the uterine cavity in a region of the tubal ostium. Current is passed through the one or more bipolar electrodes to the tubal ostium to destroy tissue to a known depth, which precipitates a healing response in surrounding tissue that over time scars and occludes the fallopian tube.

摘要: An apparatus and method for use in performing ablation or coagulation of organs and other tissue includes a metallized fabric electrode array which is substantially absorbent and/or permeable to moisture and gases such as steam and conformable to the body cavity. The array includes conductive regions separated by insulated regions arranged to produce ablation to a predetermined depth. Following placement of the ablation device into contact with the tissue to be ablated, in RF generator is used to deliver RF energy to the conductive regions and to thereby induce current flow from the electrodes to tissue to be ablated. As the current heats the tissue, moisture (such as steam or liquid) leaves the tissue causing the tissue to dehydrate. Suction may be applied to facilitate moisture removal. The moisture permeability and/or absorbency of the electrode carrying member allows the moisture to leave the ablation site so as to prevent the moisture from providing a path of conductivity for the current.

摘要: Disclosed is an ablation method and apparatus used to close veins for treatment of venous insufficiency disease. The apparatus includes a catheter proportioned for insertion into a vein, a pair of inflatable balloons spaced apart on the catheter body, and an ablation electrode array disposed between the balloons. According to the disclosed method, the catheter is introduced into the vein to be treated and the balloons are distended. Blood is flushed and aspirated from the site between the balloons. RF power is applied to the electrode array, causing scarring of the vessel walls and eventual sealing of the vein.
