摘要: A needle guide having a semi-compliant shell design and locating means for attachment to an ultrasound transducer. The needle guide improves over the prior art in its reduced complexity, its low-profile formed fit to the transducer, a positive guide locking feature when the needle holding pin is in the closed position, and its ease of attachment over a sterile cover. The improved design is conducive to low-cost manufacturing methods which employ materials that can be autoclaved, gas-sterilized, or liquid disinfected.

摘要: An ultrasound transducer assembly is disclosed having a housing, a transducer array mounted in the housing and an electronics assembly mounted in the housing, the electronics assembly including one or more sub-assemblies having heat generating components disposed thereon. The electronics sub-assemblies further include thermal conducting features which conduct heat generated by the heat generating components out of the electronics assembly where it can be further removed by other thermal management techniques. These other thermal management techniques may include techniques utilized to cool the transducer array.

摘要: An apparatus and method for operating a catheter guiding assembly, with one lumen providing access for an ultrasound imaging catheter and a second lumen providing a working port for a tool. Optionally, the ultrasound imaging catheter in the catheter guiding assembly is exposed to blood, and the ultrasound imaging catheter port has a gasket. Alternatively, the catheter guiding assembly is sealed to prevent blood contact by the ultrasound imaging catheter, and the ultrasound imaging catheter may be re-used several times. In either case, the working tool is in the field of view of the ultrasound imaging catheter and normally exposed to blood. Because the working tool is exposed to blood, the working port has a gasket to keep blood from leaking out. Optionally, the working port is used for fluid delivery for injecting contrast agent, chemicals or drugs, which can be activated by sonification from the ultrasound imaging catheter.

摘要: A controller for an ultrasonic transducer assembly includes a housing having a longitudinal axis that extends generally parallel to the proximal end of a conduit, such as a catheter. A steering actuator is mounted to the housing for rotation about the longitudinal axis, and a steering hub is mounted for rotation in the housing and coupled to the steering actuator such that rotation of the steering ring with respect to the housing causes rotation of the steering hub. A steering line is secured adjacent the steering hub and extends to the distal end of the conduit such that rotation of the steering hub alters the effective length of the steering line to steer the distal end. The steering line is wrapped at least partially around a stator to avoid threading the steering line through multiple holes and slots prior to termination to the steering hub. The steering line is preferably formed of a liquid crystal polymer, and the housing of the steering mechanism preferably contains an extension portion to ensure that the portion of the housing that the user grips to manipulate the steering mechanism is sufficiently far away from the cable to ensure that the cable will remain sterile and thus reusable. In an additional preferred embodiment, the controller is contoured to a human hand to provide a comfortable, efficient, and enjoyable one-handed operation.
