Abstract: An industrial integrated development environment (IDE) is designed to execute on a cloud-platform or a web-based platform. The IDE includes a library of device profiles that render graphical device configuration interfaces for reading and writing values of device parameters. To ensure correct binding of an instance of a device profile invoked on a client device and the corresponding physical device on the plant floor during runtime, the IDE system assigns a unique session identifier to each communication channel between a client-side profile instance and the corresponding physical device.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for performing a local update from a global catalog of device and system attributes. In certain embodiments, a system may comprise an edge server of an industrial automation environment, configured to update a local catalog from a cloud-based global catalog. The edge server may perform a device discovery operation to identify an industrial device connected to a local network on premises with the edge server, access the global catalog to obtain data about the industrial device, store the data about the industrial device to the local catalog, and respond to a query about the industrial device based on the data about the industrial device from the local catalog.

Abstract: An industrial integrated development environment (IDE) can dynamically generate user interfaces for device profiles using predefined reusable profile templates together with data models of the devices for which the device profile interfaces are to be created. The device profile template defines features or components of profile interface views that are reusable across multiple different devices. The industrial IDE determines which interface features defined by the device profile template are required to support the device's data and supported features defined by the data model, and dynamically adapts the device profile template to yield a suitable device profile interface that can be used to view and edit the device's data and configuration parameter values.

Abstract: An industrial integrated development environment (IDE) supports device profile development tools that allow new device profiles to be created easily using predefined reusable profile templates together with profile configuration files that define the backend IDE services and industrial device bindings for the profile. Using this development platform, a single device profile template can be used as the basis for multiple different device profiles, each customized using a text-based profile configuration file. This can reduce the time and effort required to create device profiles for new devices, and can also reduce the storage space required for the device profile library.

Abstract: An industrial topology discovery system autonomously discovers and documents industrial automation system topologies using orchestrated discovery agents of various types. The topology discovery system can reside on a cloud platform or another high level network and deploy discovery agents on plant networks and devices within an industrial facility. These discovery agents can implement different strategies for discovering system information, and can include agents configured to monitor and report on communication traffic across respective types of networks, agents configured to probe respective device types for identity and configuration information, and other types of agents. Discovery services executed by the topology discovery system can collect device and network information obtained by the agents and use this information to document the topology of the automation system as well as to orchestrate the discovery behavior of the agents to extract further information about the system based on defined discovery rules.
