摘要: This invention provides a method for expanding at least a portion of a cylindrical sidewall of a generally cylindrically shaped, electrically responsive, metallic body. This method comprises the steps of retaining at least a first portion of the metallic body, disposing a coil of electrically conductive material inside the metallic body, and energizing the coil to create an electromagnetic force sufficient to expand at least a portion of the generally cylindrical sidewalls of the metallic body outwardly of the original generally cylindrical shape. During such expansion, a fluid is introduced between the coil and the inside surfaces of the container to maintain positive gauge pressure as the sidewalls expand. This invention also provides an apparatus for expanding at least a portion of a cylindrical sidewall of a generally cylindrically shaped, electrically responsive, metallic body. The apparatus comprises a retaining mechanism for holding the metallic body, a coil of electrically conductive material, structure for disposing the coil inside the metallic body, and structure for energizing the coil sufficient to expand at least a portion of the sidewall of the metallic body. Means for maintaining positive gauge pressure during expansion is also included in the apparatus.

摘要: A composite metallurgical product includes a roll cast aluminum alloy core and a filler material bonded on the core. Assemblies joined by filler material are formed from this product by heating to flow the filler material into joints and subsequent solidification of the filler material in the joints. The composite product is made in several ways, including lamination at roll caster rolls, and lamination or thermal spraying at the exit side of a roll caster. The invention additionally provides for an angulation rolling method for varying percent of cladding on the composite, and a high-manganese aluminum alloy useful as core material in brazing sheet clad with aluminum-silicon brazing alloy.

摘要: This invention provides a method of bulging at least a portion of a sidewall of a drawn or drawn and ironed aluminum container body. The method involves an initial thermal treatment step prior to bulging. The thermal treatment is provided to that portion of the sidewall of the container that is to be bulged and is sufficient to reduce the yield strength of that portion of the sidewall about 20% without substantially adversely affecting the yield strength of the bottom wall of the container. After thermal treatment, at least a portion of the thermally treated sidewall is bulged at a circumferential strain greater than about 5% to provide container shape.

摘要: A method is provided to replace a damaged pin in a module for an integrated circuit assembly without damaging the circuit device or chip mounted in a circuitized substrate. This method comprises brazing a new pin to the base of the old pin by capacitive discharge brazing with a ribbon of compatible metal foil, requiring no flux, and is effected by firing the charge by completing a circuit which includes a pin attachment tool, the ribbon and the power supply, but in which circuit the chip is bypassed. The arc is struck and the new pin is brazed to the old without generating sufficient heat to damage the chip, and without conducting any current through the chip. The attachment tool is uniquely adapted to clamp the new pin and locate the pin precisely over the base of the old pin.

摘要: A process for recovery of salts from a rinse liquid solution used to rinse salt flux from a metallurgical joining operation is disclosed in which process soluble flux salts are dissolved in the rinse liquid solution while other insoluble salts are dispersed therein. The process comprises collecting the rinse liquid solution; removing undissolved solids from the solution; concentrating the remaining solution by removal of liquid to provide a slurry; subjecting the slurry to a drying operation to remove the balance of the liquid; and recovering the residue. In a preferred embodiment, the residue is analyzed and sufficient metal salts are added to restore the residue to a desired salt flux composition for reuse.
