Abstract:
A cavity sealing article for use in a longitudinally extending cavity defined by cavity walls, the cavity having a cross-section within the cavity walls which is to be sealed at a predetermined location, comprises: (a) a driver comprising a crosslinked foamable polymer, the driver having a size, shape, and expansion ratio on foaming such that, when foamed within the cross-section of the cavity at the predetermined location, it substantially but incompletely occupies the cross-section of the cavity; and (b) a sealer comprising an uncrosslinked foamable polymer in intimate contact with the driver and surrounding the driver in the cross-section of the cavity, the sealer having a size, shape, and expansion ratio on foaming such that, when the cavity sealing article as a whole is foamed, the foamed sealer is forced into intimate and sealing contact with the cavity walls.
Abstract:
A cavity sealing article comprises(a) a planar support member; and(b) a sealing member comprising a foamable polymer surrounding and in intimate contact with the support member in the plane of the support member, the sealing member comprising at least two layers in intimate contact in the plane of the support member, the outermost of the layers comprising an uncrosslinked foamable polymer, andan inner layer comprising a crosslinked foamable polymer.
Abstract:
A planar cavity sealing article comprises:(a) at least one driver comprising a crosslinked foamable polymer, and(b) a sealer comprising an uncrosslinked foamable polymer in intimate contact with the at least one driver and substantially surrounding the at least one driver in the plane of the article.
Abstract:
This invention provides a planar sealing article including: (a) a driver including a crosslinked foamable polymer, and (b) a sealer including an uncrosslinked foamable polymer in intimate contact with the driver and surrounding the driver in the plane of the article, the sealer having a plurality of apertures therethrough. The sealing article is especially adapted for forming a seal between a plurality of substrates and a bounded opening through which the plurality of substrates pass.
Abstract:
A toolless environmental splice enclosure capable of fitting within an aerial splice case is disclosed. The environmental closure permits sealing and reentry to a cable splice region.
Abstract:
There is disclosed a cable closure which includes a central closure body and a pair of end caps preferably made from structural foam situated at each end of the closure body. There is also disclosed a cable block which includes void filling material selectively inserted among the insulated conductors of the cable and a directional control device which consists of a conduit also selectively inserted among the insulated conductors of the cable. Together the cable closure, cable block and directional control device make up the splice closure system. There may also be provided a heat recoverable seal adhesively attached to the cable closure in which case there will also be provided means for preventing milk-off of the seal from the cable closure. finally, there is disclosed a method for forming the cable block.
Abstract:
The invention relates to the production of silica reinforced rubber incorporating a novel azo-silane coupling agent which does not depend on the vulcanization reaction to effect coupling to the rubber. The novel coupling agents are of the general formula:Y -- X -- CO -- N .dbd. N -- CO -- X.sup.1 -- Zwhere X and X.sup.1 are the same or different and each is an imino group, an oxygen atom, or a substituted or unsubstituted methylene group; Y is a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, aryl or aralkyl group or is the same as Z; and Z as an alkyl, aryl or aralkyl group which has an substituent at least one silane group of the formula: --Si(OR).sub.3 or --OSi(OR).sub.3 in which R is a straight or branched chain alkyl group. The azo-silane is typically used in amounts of from .1 to 10 pphr. Silica reinforced rubber vulcanizates produced using the azo-silane can have improved properties e.g. abrasion resistance, scorch resistance and resilience as compared with vulcanizates made using conventional coupling agents.
Abstract:
A gel and container means capable of protecting a binding post and drop wire from moisture and corrosion is provided which will effectively prevent the exposure of the drop wire and binding post cap and screw from moisture and corrosive atmospheres without the need for a pressure maintaining means other than the combination of the cap and gel. The pressure of the gel is maintained on the binding post through the extraction of plasticizers from the container means causing a shrinkage.
Abstract:
A composition comprises a blend of (a) a first crystalline fluoroplastic which is an ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene copolymer, in an amount between 30 and 70 weight %; (b) a second crystalline fluoroplastic which is a terpolymer of tetrafluoroethylene, hexafluoropropylene, and vinylidene fluoride, in an amount between 30 and 65 weight %; and (c) a fluorinated thermoplastic elastomer which is a block copolymer having at least one elastomeric segment comprising tetrafluoroethylene, vinylidene fluoride, and hexafluoropropylene repeat units in a mole ratio 45-90:5-50:0-35 and at least one nonelastomeric segment comprising tetrafluoroethylene and ethylene repeat units, in an amount between 5 and 25 weight %. The fluorinated thermoplastic elastomer acts as a compatibilizer for the two fluoroplastics. The composition exhibits improved flexibility, tensile strength, and/or elongation.
