In one example, a method includes receiving an intended use of a media asset from a remote device (e.g., from a user wishing to reuse the media asset in some fashion), and allowing communication of the media asset if the intended use satisfies a predetermined permissible use set (which may include one or more permissible criteria). The intended use may be compared with the predetermined permissible use set to determine if the use is okay, and if so, the method provides the remote device with a link to the media asset or a source of the media asset. In one example, apparatus for editing media assets includes logic (e.g., software) for causing the display of a media asset editor embedded within a web page, the editor operable to display a media asset and cause an edit of the media asset in response to user input. In one example, the media asset editor comprises a widget embedded within the web page; for example, a flash based widget. The editor may be further operable to upload media assets to remote storage, e.g., local or remote media assets or user-generated media assets. An edit to the media asset may include an edit instruction associated with the displayed media asset. Embodiments are directed towards managing messages based on generated interest clusters. A message may be analyzed to determine one or more interest clusters associated with the message. The message may be automatically sent to members within the determined interest cluster(s), or if no members are in the interest cluster(s), to those identified in the sender's contact list. As recipients of the message respond to the message, the membership to the interest clusters may be revised. Responses used to revise the membership may include forwarding, reading, ignoring, or deleting the message. Subsequent revisions to the membership may be made based on responses to subsequent messages sent to the members of the interest cluster. Display of the message may be in a rank order based on a determined hop distance for the message. Third parties may use the interest cluster and/or sneezers to direct advertisements, or the like.

Systems and methods have been developed for displaying contextually relevant advertisements to users as media objects are being rendered. One or more data sources with contextual information for different portions of each media object are maintained. From this contextual information, keywords may be generated and used to locate contextually-related advertisements. The advertisements are selected based on contextual information about the media object in order to match or otherwise be contextually relevant with the media content being rendered. As the subject matter of the media object changes during rendering, different advertisements related to the new context are provided that replace the prior advertisement. The advertisements are displayed in an area that could be used for other purposes when the rendering device is not rendering media objects.
