    Abstract: Systems and methods for modeling gas desorption in a subterranean reservoir include measuring a gas sorption parameter using a crushed core sample from the subterranean reservoir; computing a gas storage capacity of the subterranean reservoir at an initial reservoir pressure based on the gas sorption parameter; generating a three-dimensional (3D) distribution of total organic carbon (TOC) in the subterranean reservoir; estimating a 3D distribution of original adsorbed gas in place of the subterranean reservoir by correlating the gas storage capacity with the 3D distribution of TOC; and predicting the amount of gas desorbed from the subterranean reservoir as the reservoir is depleted.

    Abstract: Systems and methods include a computer-implemented method for performing an advanced control policy for a group of wells. Choke settings are applied to one or more control elements of each well in a group of wells. Rig control settings are applied to the group of wells. The rig control settings define, for each rule in a set of rules: a rule count limiting a number of times a rule is to be executed in a simulation run and a rule frequency identifying a time frequency by which the rule is to be executed during the simulation run. Settings are received for targets and constraints for the group of wells. The simulation run is executed for the group of wells using the choking settings, the rig control settings, and the settings for of the targets and constraints for the group of wells.

A well among the wells may correspond to a simulated well network in a reservoir simulation. The method may further include determining, based on the grid model data and the well data, a first simulation solution for a first constraint rate equation decoupled from the simulated well network and using a first search method. The method may further include determining, based on the grid model data, the well data, and the first simulation solution, a second simulation solution for a second constraint rate equation coupled to the simulated well network and using a second search method. The method may further include performing, based on the grid model data, and the second simulation solution, the reservoir simulation.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer-readable medium to perform operations for simulating performance of a reservoir that includes a wellbore. The operations include determining a constraint for an intelligent completion in a model of the wellbore, where the constraint includes a condition and a responsive action. The operations further include performing, in response to determining that the condition is satisfied, the responsive action. Further, the operations include determining, in response to performing the responsive action, transfer equations for the model of the wellbore. Yet further, the operations include building, using the transfer equations, a wellbore computation matrix for the model of the wellbore. In addition, the operations include solving the wellbore computation matrix and determining that a solution to the wellbore computation matrix has converged to an acceptable tolerance. The operations also include responsively determining that the converged solution is indicative of flow in the model of the wellbore.

    Abstract: Methods and systems for modeling complex well completions include identifying a well that is a candidate for receiving a complex well completion and generating initial configuration data representing completion devices for the well. The well is modeled as a set of wellbore segments defining a well network based on the initial configuration data. The well network is integrated into a reservoir simulation grid by locating the wellbore segments within the simulated reservoir at particular locations within the reservoir simulation grid. A portion of the well network within a first area of the reservoir is selected comprising at least one wellbore segment. The reservoir simulation grid is refined within the first area and coarsened outside the first area. A simulation of the reservoir simulator is executed generating production data representing the production from the well. A simulated production profile of the well is rendered for display.
